Just wanted to give you all some updates to my case...

 

Today I had my info pass appointment at Dallas field office in the early morning to get I-551 stamp on my passport and to check my case status. After completing the check-in process, I was called at one of the windows where a really nice USCIS officer was already present. We greeted each other and at the same time I gave my green card, extension letter & passport. The officer started with my purpose of appointment as below:

 

Officer: Which application you have pending with USCIS?

Me: I-751

 

Officer: What is your first name, middle name and last name?

Me: Told

 

Officer: DOB?

Me: Told

 

Officer: Parent's first name?

Me: Told

 

Officer: Let me quickly check where is your file right now?

Me: Great. Thanks!

 

She was quickly feeding information in her system from the extension letter.

 

Officer: We don't have your file here. Your I-751 file is still at CSC and has not been touched yet. You would receive decision from CSC in mail. (Well I knew this already based on information on this forum haha)

Me: Ok. Can you please tell me how long it would take to adjudicate my petition since it is taking more than a year these days?

 

Officer: Well I don't have clear answer at this point of time. CSC is facing bottleneck right now.

Me: hmm.. (This must be due to load transfer from VSC and not enough officers to handle increased volume)

 

Officer: I can give you a one year stamp today.

Me: Perfect. Thanks! Got a question. Can I file N-400 application when I become eligible?

 

Officer: Well you can definitely file N-400 if you think you are eligible. However one should not file N-400 with the presumption that N-400 will be approved first when I-751 is pending. We cannot approve N-400 before I-751.

Me: Ok. No problem.

 

Officer: Please wait outside as I have to go to other room for your stamp process.

Me: Ok, No problem.

 

She went back to get some documents printed for my stamp process. She told me that it is going to take some time as they are doing some checks (This must be some quick background check I am assuming).  After 15 mins, I saw her stamping my passport.

 

Officer: Please come foreword. Here is your passport with the I-551 stamp that is good for one year. This serves as your temporary green card. If you still don't receive your 10 year green card after one year, you can come again for new stamp. We will continue putting new stamp again until you receive your 10 year green card. Do you have any questions?

 

Me: No. Thanks a lot!! Have a great day.

Officer: You too.

 

Overall this was good experience. I was in and out within one hour.

 

My two cents: Please get a stamp if you are already approaching one year mark of filing and international travel coming in distant future. Also do apply for N-400 when you become eligible as you have already waited one year long for your I-751 (Not applicable if you are not in any kind of hurry :P)

Got my InfoPass appointment. The only available schedule that showed up was in 2 weeks so I took it. I tried clicking on earlier dates but nothing happened. 

 

Is it still possible to book an earlier date? How do I change my scheduled InfoPass apointment?

 

Also, I entered the receipt number on my extension letter when prompted for scheduling. Should I have entered the receipt number on the biometrics letter instead (this is what works for case status check)?

Havent done Infopass before, but based on what I read I don't think the different receipt numbers matter too much.

I think the receipt number on NOA is the number we use to check our petition status on myUSCIS online, no?

Some people have been receiving them as quickly as 7-10 days after receiving the approval letter. But obviously there are no guarantees and it can take longer. Good luck and congratulations!

I was told by a CBP officer recently that the letter extends your status for one year past the date of expiry on your Green Card. However, I am sure other have been in for a stamp around 30 days before the notice date on the letter. 

 

However, if 19 september is your GC expiry date I would certainly go ahead and get the stamp now

My green card expired on December 18, 2016 but I filed for removing conditiins 3 months before my Green Card expird. I received extention letter from uscis which will expire on September 19, 2017. So I wanted to know if it's good to apply for info pass now. Just thought I would explain myself better. Lol
