Its crazy that online statuses are not updated. What if the letter is lost?!

I'd say that's the same risk with having the GC itself being lost in the mail, or any other communication with USCIS. That said prompt online status updates are surely appreciated. And funny enough, I just now got the update online to say New Card is Being Produced

Dinosaur2013, I've seen some references here from people that said they signed up to a USPS service that tells them what's in the mailbox every day (I didn't set it up, so don't know the specifics, but should be a quick search through VisaJourney).

Just wanted to fill in my info to give some hope and idea of timeline to all the people who are patiently waiting. 

 

Filing date 9/12/2016

Vermont 

New Card is being produced - 8/11/2017

 

That was the best text/email I have ever received from USCIS with change in status. Although I feared it was RFE or an interview, but it was in fact the card being produced. So to all of you in this forum - Thank you for keeping my spirits up and this is to pass the positivity around.

If you have to prove that you have a legal status in the US you need this stamp. If you do not have situations in which you are required to prove your status, then you don't need it. In other words, you will not become illegal to the US in case you don't have this stamp. But you will need it to get employed, to travel, to receive government benefits, to conduct bank operations in person and so forth.

I'm on InfoPass page. No available appointments for Tue Aug 15 and yet it doesn't let me choose a different day to schedule. What's going on??
