I think you use the "wrong" receipt number... there's 2 numbers! Not the one that on the extension letter, but the one on the figure print letter.

I had the same issue.  Use the WAC number from the biometrics letter.

The VJ guide says, among other things (note the "ors", not "ands"):

• Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children, or
• Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past three years, or
• An IRS tax return transcript for the last three years.

For the proof of marriage part, you can apparently send as little as your current marriage certificate plus tax transcripts for the last three years, and then bring any other evidence you might have (bank statements, deeds, etc.) to the interview. Whichever route you choose, wishing you good luck for a speedy process!

 

I'm planning on applying for citizenship in less than 2 months. What if I still don't have ROC completed and no 10-year GC yet?

We went on a cruise to the Caribbean, and upon boarding the ship the lady at check in hadn't encountered an extension letter before, so she took it to a supervisor for verification. There was a little wait, but no issue - She just told me to make sure that I carried the letter with me at all times (which I believe we are supposed to do anyway). Upon our return to the U.S. the officer looked at both my GC and the letter and let me right through - No issue at all 

While I now feel that my anxiety regarding traveling was perhaps excessive, I think only those that are going through a visa process can really understand the stress that it places on a person. More so now than ever before. 

I hope my positive experience puts anyone's mind at rest who may be concerned about traveling overseas during this period 

Thanks for sharing your positive experience.  I am going on a cruise on April 30th.  Do you mind sharing which port you sailed from?  

 

I have traveled using the letter, but I was less nervous then since it was prior to January 20th

We called last night for a 6 month update and were told the California office is doing June 2016 right now which we confirmed on the website as well.....slow.

 

Also I noticed some people discussing traveling with the extension letter. We just got back from a trip to Oman and Emirates from California. No issues coming back in with the letter and green card.

We went on a cruise in December just a few weeks after Green card had expired. The lady checking us in didn't even look at the green card. She just wanted to see the extension letter.

You can apply for citizenship even if your ROC is pending. They will be forced to adjudicate your ROC when they get to adjudicating your N400 and you may even end up having a joint ROC/citizenship interview. However, if your ROC gets stuck in "security checks", those checks will put a hold on your citizenship too.

    I called in March and they said 200 Days from march 19th .. but I did not see date change on VSC, is it somthing I am missing ?

Today USCIS Field Office Processing Dates for California Service Center as of: March 31, 2017. but the bad thing is they are still processing June 7. in a whole month they have not moved even a lil bit....

When Can I apply for naturalization ? I got my extension letter with date 09/01/2016(When USCIS received my case).

You can apply for naturalization 90 days prior the the 3rd anniversary of your "resident since" date as indicated on your green card. For instance if your resident since date on green card is 03/04/2015, the earliest you can apply will be 12/04/2017.  You can apply even if your I-751 is still pending. The I-751 will need to be adjudicated though before N 400 can be approved. What normally happens is your I-751 gets approved before your N 400 interview or you get to do a joint I-751 and N 400 interview.
