Wait!    I thought you could apply for US citizenship after 3 years of living in the US?   Am I missing something?  :reading:

You're not missing anything. I've decided to do it after 5 years because then it won't require another load of bona-fide marriage evidence. Just 5 years of legal residency evidence.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

Yes, you can. Ketsuban mentioned the other day that they were sick of having to prove the validity of their marriage over and over again, so they've decided to wait to apply until the only relevant qualification is duration of residency.

That's very tiring indeed!  :bonk:   I'm just mailing the same relationship documents that I used for I-751 when I submit my US Citizenship application.   Maybe updated bank statements?    Oh, we recently bought a condo so I'm attaching that document and that's it!

This comes up quite a bit in the Citizenship forum -- apparently you don't actually have to send very much proof if you're applying based on marriage.

The VJ guide says, among other things (note the "ors", not "ands"):

  • Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, or birth certificates of children, or
  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS)-certified copies of the income tax forms that you both filed for the past three years, or
  • An IRS tax return transcript for the last three years.

For the proof of marriage part, you can apparently send as little as your current marriage certificate plus tax transcripts for the last three years, and then bring any other evidence you might have (bank statements, deeds, etc.) to the interview. Whichever route you choose, wishing you good luck for a speedy process!

However, I still hope I receive my 10-year Green Card before that!

Just for those that were following the issue of traveling overseas with the extension letter:

We went on a cruise to the Caribbean, and upon boarding the ship the lady at check in hadn't encountered an extension letter before, so she took it to a supervisor for verification. There was a little wait, but no issue - She just told me to make sure that I carried the letter with me at all times (which I believe we are supposed to do anyway). Upon our return to the U.S. the officer looked at both my GC and the letter and let me right through - No issue at all :)

While I now feel that my anxiety regarding traveling was perhaps excessive, I think only those that are going through a visa process can really understand the stress that it places on a person. More so now than ever before.

I hope my positive experience puts anyone's mind at rest who may be concerned about traveling overseas during this period :)

Thanks for this. I'm going back to the UK in June for a week and am a little anxious even though I'll have every bit of evidence with me and triple check it every minute like when I had to go the US embassy for the interview :)

Hey guys,

Just checked the CSC webpage! Looks like they updated the processing time! Now they're processing I-751 as of June 7th 2016 filers!

Which means we've got 8-10 weeks or so to hear back about our cases according to my calculations =)

Alright, now to the fun stuff: Monte Carlo Masters is happening now! (April 14- 22 )

Round 32 is almost over, the question on everyone's mind: Will Rafa make it to the final and win his 10th title for this tournament??!!

Vamos Rafaaa!!! =)

Oh almost forgot to mention Champions League Games today!! Barca didnt make the comeback again today against Juventus!! : / It was very physical game, Juve didn't let Messi breathe!! It was absolutely defensive game from the old lady team.. Anyway, having always been a fan of the underdog, I am glad Juventus made it to the Semi's!!

So now we've got: R. Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Monaco and Juventus

Ohh I can't wait to see the draw on Friday!!

Alright, I want the semi finals to be as the following:

Real Madrid vs Monaco

Atletico Madrid vs Juventus OMG this would be an epic game you guys!!

Cheers

Just sharing another success scenario story involving traveling with an extension letter: My wife just came back from overseas after 3 months and entered via LAX with no problem.

On a separate note, tried checking her app status using the receipt number (staring with WAC) shown in her extension letter but the website states that it's an invalid number thus cannot be found. Anyone seeing this as well?
