Me too ?

I've been told to carry my expired GC and the original extension letter from USCIS (and of course my passport and second license) for travel. Does anybody have any other advice for traveling while in limbo with this? I'm a little uncomfortable with it too. Thanks ?

I'm traveling with my husband and  4 other US citizens for a group vacation. We are going to Jamaica and Mexico, so I'm a little worried that they won't understand the letter.

We live in AZ and there are many Border Patrol Checkpoints, and several times when visiting on the 'Visa Waiver' I was asked to produce a Visa... And when I said 'I don't need a visa, I'm traveling on the Visa Waiver, the agents would look immediately concerned, and didn't understand that I didn't need a visa! While I never had any major issues, it was obvious that they weren't familiar with that side of immigration.

A valid GC is very common and easy to identify... But I don't know how often they see these extension letters, and it's got me a little worried... Especially with the executive order, as you say... ?

Take it easy!! there are always some employees who are never familiar with some documents or letters.. that's how life is on this planet! plain and simple!! get over it guys!!

everyone is freakin out!!! calm the heck down you guys!! aight??!!! cool

I would act confident and calm when travelling cause SIMPLY your papers are legal and no need to be concerned or freak out or anything!!

The moment you act worried and panic, they will suspect you!! so be confident and chill!! Plain and simple guys!!

Cheers

Thanks! We're traveling abroad in June so we'll be taking the expired green card and extension letter. Eligible for citizenship application at the end of July, so may get the new green card in the mail and then turn right around and submit citizenship app. Never far away from a pending immigration application!

When approved, does the new green card just come in the mail?

Easiest way to add/update the List
(FORMATTING HAS CHANGED WITH VJ UPDATE. REGULAR COPY AND PASTE IS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED)
Instructions below may not be needed now.

1. Make sure you are on the correct thread you want to add the post to.
2. At the top of the thread, you will find a blue button that says "Reply to this topic". Click it.
3. You will see your posting box. You don't need to alter any fonts or colors etc. One of the icons (top right hand side) is the editor options. Once clicked 2 boxes pop up. Make sure "Paste as plain text by default" is unchecked.
4. Scroll down the page until you come across the first applicant date list. Copy and paste the list and relevant information and paste it in the editing box above. (I use the right mouse click button to copy text and right mouse click to paste. DO NOT "Paste as plain text" as it may not format correctly).
5. Your information in the editing box should look like the actual post with all lines and hyphens in line with each other.
6. If you are adding your name to the list, you need to add a line. Place cursor at the end of the last line and press enter. This continues the correct font and size. Enter information (your VJ name in CAPITALS) and be careful not to erase any other lines. If you are unsure if you have, click cancel button and start again.
7. To edit hyphens to add dates, find your line with your information on it and delete the hyphens and replace with date.
8. Lastly, if you added your name, make sure you put yourself in the right service center ie, Vermont or California. Remember to change the number of applicants depending on which service center your petition is at.
9. PREVIEW POST. Just to make sure everything looks right before posting. If it looks right, then "Add reply". You're done.

Just thought I should share this with you guys. So basically I travel a lot and since I started this ROC process, I unfortunately have to travel around with that extension letter which at this point is becoming annoying. So I scheduled an infopass appointment and went to my local field office to attempt getting a stamp on my passport to eliminate the need of carrying that darn letter around. Met with the officer, she asked for my extension letter, I told her it got water damaged lol and I was exploring my options. She took my passport and expired green card. When she returned them back, to my greatest surprise the I-551 endorsement stamp says valid until September 12, 2018!! My original extension letter from USCIS is set to expire this September. So effectively I got a 2 year extension (counting back from my date of filing) plus she eliminated the need for a trip to the office if my ROC hasn't been processed by September. Not sure if this was an oversight or accurate, but it definitely works for me and I sure I'm not complaining. Happy camper!!!
