If an I-90 renewal application is pending and the applicant's green card has expired (or is about to expire), the USCIS can provide a stamp in the passport, which serves as temporary evidence of the individual's status as a permanent resident. This stampis known as the I-551 temporary evidence stamp. ( i just googled it :) )

all you need it's infopass, bring valid passport, expired green card ( they may take it from you, so just in case make a copy of it ) and letter from USCIS. stapm is valid for 6 months or one year. I'm in Chicago, and they game me stamp fro 6 months, but some people got it for one year. 

You can travel with it without any problem.

In order to get stamp, the extension letter has to be about to expire, NOT THE GREEN CARD.

When the green card expires, the extension letter plus expired green card are used as proof of Permanent Residence.

If the green card is expired AND the extension letter is about to expire, then you can get a I-551 Stamp on passport. From that point on, only passport with stamp are needed as proof of Permanent Residence.

The above is true for both I-90 (Green card renewal) and I-765 (ROC).

In his case they are both expired. green card and the letter. and in order go get extension letter your card need to be about to expire anyway :) 

i just said what he needs to take for is infopass. happy new year :)

Congratulations for everyone who got approved, and good luck for everyone who is still waiting.

The different between CSC & VSC waiting time is to big! I don't know why there is a very big different!

Even if they have more cases, it could take a little bed longer time. 

I-485 (AOS)

04/01/2015 Sent Form I-485.

05/06/2015 Scheduled the interview and mailed its notice.

06/16/2015 The Post Office picked up mail containing the new card.

06/16/2015 The 2 years Green Card was mailed to me.

06/18/2015 The 2 years Green Card in hand.

 

I-751 (ROC)

03/13/2017 Sent I-751 documents to CSC.

03/14/2017 Package received.

03/16/2017 Check cashed.

03/??/2017  NOA received.

The difference is not really that big.

Vermont is ahead 3-4 months, but it has been like that for a long time.

That means that Vermont is not processing any faster than CSC.

CSC got behind at some point, but it is keeping the 3-4 months difference with VSC for quite some time now.

Both seem to be processing at the same speed (otherwise the 3-4 months advantage would keep increasing).

Based what I saw CSC takes 4-6 mo longer, maybe that is not a very big, but for who is waiting it is a big!
Specially for applying N-400, in these 4-6 mo you could done your N-400 and being USC! I know they can apply for N-400 while their I-751s are still pending, but that is not very clearly and well as who got approved! 
Just take a look on the last comment of  hopefulls "2 comments up my last comment"

And see the big difference between the results!

It takes 4-6 months longer but it used to take 6 months faster. Net change is 10-12 months. That is CSC slowed down for a YEAR!

There is a difference between processing taking 4 months longer and being 4 months behind. Not necessarily the same.

Not because a car is 0.5 miles ahead of you on the freeway means that it is going faster. You may be going at same speed but one just got behind at some point.

 

I can't tell one way or the other whether CSC or VSC is currently faster at processing I-751s. Only time will tell.
