Everyone has cultural or racial basis to some degree.

Everyone has perceptions, that are usually formed for a reason. Hence, I don't feel a need to call those perceptions names like "racial bias" or "prejudice" because as long as you don't reflect those perceptions on others who have nothing to do with them(and I for one don't) it's not. Those perceptions also are not exclusive to race or religion, they can be about a type of a job, a look, a place, etc, so they have nothing to do with race. Now, perceptions with no merit to begin with are a different story altogether.

everyone has prejudices, most were formed in childhood or from traumatic experiences. i think it's our responsibility to try and recognize those prejudices in ourselves and break them down.

what is interesting to me, is why i read about the death of darren seals and see how important he was to so many people and i feel genuine loss, it's tragic. you read about his death and wonder what brother offed him and if blm had anything to do with it and question if anyone's going to be out and about protesting his death. there's a huge difference in the way we see the same event. is that due to your prejudices or mine? i don't understand the knee jerk distaste for a dead man without prejudice existing somewhere..

A preconceived perception and prejudice are pretty much the same thing aren't they.

Racism is when you don't like someone strictly because of Thier race.

In my opinion prejudice is when you see someone with dreds saggy pants and gold teeth and assume they might be of less than stellar character.

exactly. and it would be wrong of you to assume such a thing.

Well I agree with you there and that is what I meant(I was talking about racial prejudice and bias, not general). So just because we all have certain prejudice on certain things doesn't make any of us racists. And prejudice is usually backed by more than one event, whether personal or not, traumatic or not. But as long as it's not projected on those who didn't cause said prejudice(like the dude with the gold teeth), you can't really be accused of having any actual bias towards anyone. Now, if you actually do what you said, and actually believe they might be of less than stellar character then yes, you are definitely biased.

Probably from an intellectual stand point but based on my life experience and where I live it is probably savy to be a bit guarded till proven otherwise.

Prejudice also works the other way like assuming all successful white people are Thier because of white privilege or assuming if a cop stops you it's because you are a POC

Or assuming everyone is poor because they are lazy or someone in a 3 peice suit behind a pulpit is a good person.

Bias and prejudice are usually based on life experience and we all have them to a degree.

imo, this is what keeps us 'unintentionally' segregated. some of the sweetest, kindest people i know wear baggy pants, their hair in dreads. to me, the damage from prejudice comes from the premise of 'savy to be guarded till proven otherwise'. you're justifying your preconceived notions of an individual and expecting that individual to prove your bias incorrect before you'll back down your assumptions. that isn't fair to baggy pants wearing/dreaded folk, what do you have to prove to them?

and of all the prejudices you just listed, none of them are factual and none of them are worth holding onto.

I never claimed to not be messed up ?

But I see a fair amount of prejudice coming from the MDL also

well, when you see it call it out. i have to say though, when it comes to the whole 'white privilege' thing - you've a few misconceptions about what that means or how the mdl attributes it to whites. it has nothing to do with success.

I'll call it out the next time I see you say rich people are rich because they gamed the system :) That's also a type of prejudice. Sure, some may have taken shortcuts, but I do not believe it to be the majority.

So then we agree that most rich people get to where they do due to hard work and dedication, and not due to cheating? And I'm not talking about Trump and the millions he received as pocket money.

Of course it is. From all races. I am not a racist. Can I be guilty of prejudice at times of course, we all Do

But all races can't engage in racism. You have to be able to keep someone from something.

You don't, but it's been implied that some of us here are, by some members, several times before, just because we have a different POV. Just yesterday I was informed I have "racial bias". I don't have a racist bone in my body, neither does naitch, roy, or most everyone else that has been accused of this.

And it's been asked, several times before, to clarify that POV. If you don't have a racist bone in your body, why did you lose sympathy for a dead man based on the actions of another who wasn't related to said person?

“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.” – Coretta Scott King

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

not really. most rich people in this country, at this point in time, were born into it. that has nothing to do with believing in the payoffs of ingenuity and hard work and everything to do with how our economic system is rigged.
