Hello everyone,

I am from Turkey.I came to USA on june 2016 with K-1 visa and got married at the courthouse now we are going to have a family wedding in november.

My family (sister and mom) applied for a tourist visa to come our wedding in USA. The lady at the interview did not even look at all documents and rejected their visa because my sisters working time wasnt enough (She has been teaching two years long) and their money was not enough to cover their expenses ($5000 for 1 week trip). My wife sent an invitation letter to embassy explaining why are they going to visit and we want them to be a part of our wedding. My family also had save the date, photos of us that shows our marriage is real.

Now my question is how can they do that to a mom who wants to be at her sons wedding ! Is there any more documents that they can show as proof ?

I was thinking my mom can apply by herself since they made a problem of my sisters work time. We will send another invitation letter in a sealed envelope and our wedding invitation explaining they are only going to stay for a week for the wedding go back to their country after the wedding.

Thank you so much in advance for all the help and ideas !!!

There is no document that you can send that will help your mother get a visitor visa.

A new invitation letter is also meaningless. Anyone can have an invitation printed. The reason for going to the US is not important.

What is important are the reasons for your mother to return home if granted a visitor visa. That has nothing to do with you. That has only things to do with her.

I see. So what can she do about it next time she goes for an interview ?

My co-worker had success contacting their Member of Congress and explaining the situation when her mother and sister were denied visiting visas to attend their wedding. They were granted visiting visas after their first denial, though they did have to completely re-apply. This was for the consulate in Russia.

While congress can not make them approve it, they send a letter along the lines of "so-and-so tells us that you denied their family visas to come for the wedding; they are going to re-apply and please take due consideration when reviewing their qualifications." This might help! They do still need to prove strong ties, though.

No one is automatically entitled to a tourist visa because their child is getting married. One option is to have a later function in the home country that all relatives could attend.
