Hi,

I am currently leasing an apt. on my name in New Jersey. I am going to hold the lease till June 2017.

Meanwhile I am taking a contract job in PA. I am planning to stay with a friend there as room mate and will NOT be on the lease there. Max 3 to 4 months.

I am planning to still show my NJ as residence and submit my application.

Do you guys think it should be all good? or Should i mention about my PA stay in a separate statement?

Thanks in advance!

You MUST report where you actually live. It is not uncommon to move temporarily for work so you have to report your physical location as well even if you do not have a lease. Good luck! :)

You'll have to list your PA job on the application or bring it up at the interview as a correction to the employment section, so the issue will come up. If you can demonstrate that you are an NJ resident and only temporarily in PA, you'll be fine. You'll need lease documents, bills, a letter from your friend, a letter from your employer indicate work is temporary. You may not need any of that at all, but it'll all be helpful to have if your place of residence is questioned.

As for whether you need to specifically list your temporary address, I would say no. You could be at a hotel for a month for business and you wouldn't be expected to list that. In this case, it's the job, not the location that needs to be listed. So either way, be prepared for residency questions. If for some reason they think you are a PA resident, you'll have to reapply in PA when you become eligible or reapply in NJ when you "move back".

Just my opinion.

I'm in a similar situation myself.

It was suggested to me to make an addendum and list the places you lived/worked with the dates along with a few sentences of how this is a temporary contract job w temporary accommodation and that you've still maintained NJ residency. For my situation, I have five houses and one hotel in two different states. I feel by listing all, especially the hotel, shows the temporary nature of this accommodation.

Remember living and residence have two different meanings with USCIS.

At your interview you could produce your NJ lease, bills, driving license and evidence of visits back to NJ in order to further reinforce the point.
