Is it possible to schedule K1 visa appointment online at the Ghana embassy?

I'm looking under the FAQ at the Ghana Embassy Website

https://ghana.usembassy.gov/niv_faq.html

The i clicked on "How do I apply" then on online system.

it took me to the Step by Step Guide

https://ghana.usembassy.gov/niv_application.html

Step 3 is schedule an appointment online. I click and it takes me to the following

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/

I click on Africa and I select Ghana Embassy and NON immigrant Visa.

Under step 1 i click

Common Non immigrant visas which leads me here:

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh/gh-niv-visatypeinfo.asp

the box to the right of the page the last selection is a List of NIV Types

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh/gh-niv-typeall.asp

K1 visa is on this list

Now I'm not at this point in the K1 process to schedule anything yet. Im still weaiting for NOA2, but it seems like you could schedule your appointment online.Has anyone tried this?

Also from what I've been reading on USCIS and The State dept. websites. After receiving notification from the NVC, the beneficiary must initiate the application process rather wait to hear from the Embassy about packets.

Im just looking for some clarification. I'm aware that all consulates and cases are different but its frustrating at that the processes aren't streamlined in Ghana. I think the application process should vary very little from country to country.

Below is a few bullet points from https://www.uscis.gov/family/k-1-process-step-step

  • USCIS sends the approved petition to the DOS National Visa Center (NVC), which forwards it to the embassy or consulate where the foreign fiancé/fiancée will apply for the K-1 visa (generally, the embassy or consulate in the area where the person lives).

Step 2: Visa Application – DOS

  • The NVC notifies the petitioner when it is time for the foreign fiancé/fiancée to apply for the visa.
  • The foreign fiancé/fiancée applies for the K-1 visa at the U.S. Embassy or consulate indicated on the Form I-129F, submitting identity and civil documents, proof of the relationship, as well as a medical exam completed by an approved physician.

Maybe I might be wrong but I know you don't schedule your own interview for k1. This is the first time I'm hearing this.

Yea, maybe. I'm just confused because on the .gov websites it generally says that the petitioner hears from NVC and the beneficiary applies for Visa.

I'm interpreting it as the following:

I get notice and i tell my fiance to apply for the visa. If i wasn't on VJ We would assume he would go to the embassy website and take the steps listed above to apply for the visa.

I just don't know.

:/

It makes since especially since a K1 visa is considered a NIV.

If everything is online no need for the embassy to do any data entry. It seems simple. I just wish it were more clear.

I don't think I'll be waiting to hear from the consulate. I think once NVC creates a case We will submit DS-160 and begin gathering other paperwork. We will try to apply online and once we receive notification from NVC that the case has been sent I'll send my fiance to the embassy to confirm that we have everything and an interview date.

It makes no since to me that it would take 3 months or so to schedule an interview. It seems like Ghana is the only embassy with these issues.

Rant over...:)

Some embassies allow people to schedule their K1 and CR1 interviews themselves...Ghana is not one of them. The non-immigration visas you are reading about are tourist, student, work, etc. Unfortunately all you can do is wait for the letter from the embassy. I would suggest working on your additional evidence to submit and go over questions with your fiancé. You never know what the consulate may ask you.m

Thanks for the information.

By reading on the govt. websites K1 is classified as a non immigrant visa. I was speaking with fiancé in Ghana and he was saying K1 was an option when he was helping a family member apply for a tourist visa online.

When we get to that step we will attempt to apply online and we will update the thread.

Good luck to everyone in the process

Please do you have any link that will lead me to where it says the we have to wait for the embassy to write to applicant to pick packets?

The embassy will schedule the interview, it can't be scheduled by the beneficiary or the petitioner. You are better off following information on the VJ website. Following info on the embassy website will leave you confused or missing information that you need to submit. Once your petition has been received and processed by the Ghana embassy the beneficiary should receive a call letter informing them when to pick up packets. If a few weeks have lapsed and it hasn't been received they can email the embassy. When the beneficiary picks up the packets from the embassy it will include information about medical exams, via fees, appointment date, required documentation, info about police report, photo requirements, DS-160 information, etc. All visa fees are paid in Cedis at the embassy on the day of the interview. The appointment letter will need to be presented on the day of the interview.

I don't have a link. I am telling you based on my experience and probably every member on this site. I know the waiting sucks. But I can guarantee if you could schedule an interview for a K1 or CR1 interview, it would be all over this site. There are so many people waiting for interview dates. No one wants to be separated from their loved ones. But it is the government...and for that matter the US governments in Ghana. It is a very busy place, with lots of people trying to immigrate to the US. It takes time to get through all the interviews.

So I believe this is possible now. Because you must pay for your visa first then fill the DS 160 then schedule the appointment.

Before you paid at the embassy but I've found the following information:

i've found that K1 visa is $265 and can be paid at a GT Bank according to

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/gh/gh-niv-visafeeinfo.asp

Visa Types and Application Fee Amounts

The application fees are shown below and apply to one visa application. The application fee for the most common nonimmigrant visa types is $160. This includes tourist, business, student and exchange visas. Most petition-based visas, such as work and religious visas, are $190. K visas cost $240 and the fee amount for E visas is $205. Please note that visa fees for K applicants should be paid at any GT bank locations in Ghana. The tables below are a more comprehensive list of visa types and fee amounts. Following the tables is a short list of nonimmigrant visas which do not require payment of an application fee.

and also on the bank website

K1 visa is listed

http://www.gtbank.com/personalbanking/services/e-banking-services/us-visa-fees-payment#visa-categories-and-fees

Also at the bottom of the bank's page this link is attached

http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/

this where you can continue to apply and schedule online. It may have not have been this way before but it looks like its changing to where you can apply online.
