USPS, UPS or FedEx... What to use?

So for obsessive people FedEx is the great. For the rest of us it makes no differrence.

Basically, yes. I assumed the OP was obsessive because they stated they wanted to overnight it. Who else but an obsessive would care about a couple of extra days in the AOS process?

We live in Chicago, so FedEx was kind of pointless. I did USPS Priority with a Delivery Confirmation. It got there the same day.

But it must be said, Chicago USPS is the worst in the country. Seriously. If you're really obsessive about it, I'd go with FedEx, though if you do Priority Mail with a Delivery Confirmation, it should get there in enough time.

OK, OK...

I was more concerned about the delivery confirmation than the overnite issue. We are in Wisconsin and USPS said Priority would probably be there overnight anyway. I'm just waiting for my hubby to get home to go and send them.

By the way, I took pictures of the files we're sending before we put them in the envelope. When I get a chance to edit the photos I'll post them and then you'll see how obsessive and compulsive my husband is!!!:unsure:

Thanks everyone!

I used USPS for my package and had no issues. I also used delivery confirmation and pre registered my number on the USPS website. The track and confirm seemed to work well (ie: updated immediately), but maybe I was lucky.

I used FedEx, like I always do for important documents, because their tracking is accurate and frequently updated, unlike USPS. There was no problem. You have to use the LaSalle address on the front of the I-485 if you use FedEx however.

If you get an RFE there is only 1 address to send it back to, and its a PO Box. So I guess you gotta use USPS for RFEs.

Yeah, luckily I didn't get any RFEs.

Suffice to say my experience with USPS has been the exact opposite. OK, stuff gets there on time, but sometimes its taken several days after the delivery for their website to even register the tracking number. I had to give up using them for Ebay because people kept accusing me of not posting stuff because the tracking numbers I gave them didn't show up.

I've noticed this too. On the packages and things I've sent/received with FedEx, they have always updated the tracking everytime something happens with the package. So it'll tell you when it arrives at the hub, when it leaves on a truck from the hub, etc etc. With USPS, it only tells you when you get there and thats it. Its not so much "tracking" as it is just delivery confirmation. It only really tells you when it arrives at the final destination, and nothing more.

Hi,

Judester here again. I'm going to send the I-131/I-485 package out TODAY  for my husband and his two sons :bonk: and I would like to know what form of delivery is best. USPS, UPS or FedEx? I know there may be problems with any of these, but I'd like to get it there overnite and I think I'd like confirmation they received it in Chicago.

Any advice would be appreciated! :secret:

Thanks,

J

Jude, hand delivery is the best and only assured way, having just been through a situation were our forms were sent and confirmed as delivery cerified, only to discover the INS lost the forms, then I would say its the safest measure.

sent 1-129 2004-01-30

CA USCIS NOA 2004-02-12

2nd NOA 2004-07-02

NVC sends our form off to Embassy in London 2004-07-14

Packet 3 arrives 2004-07-28

Applied for Dave's Police Record 2004-08-10

Recieved Dave's Police Record (clean as a whistle!) 2004-08-20

Sent off Packet 3 2004-09-29

Bitting finger nails waiting for interview date!

Recieved Interview Date!!! Yay!!! 2004-11-05

Interview set for 2004-12-02 (counting down the days!)

Interview went well...but picked up wrong divorce papers! Eek! 2004-12-02

Mailed in corect divorce papers with Dave's passport 2004-12-03

Recieved Visa in Mail! 2004-12-08

Honestly, this could happen even if you did hand deliver. Sometimes files fall behind filing cabinets.
