We went to the MVA ("express") office in Parkville on Saturday 3/17 to get Pras an ID card; when we got there @ around 11:30 am, we were told that "with foreign documents" (since when can a Green Card be issued by a government other than US federal?) we would have to go to a "full-service" office such as Essex (to which we were given directions--didn't go there due to time; NO MVA offices open after 12:00 on saturdays).

This past Saturday (3/24), we went to Glen Burnie (not "express", it is HQ office) and found it is CLOSED on weekends (WFT?) and had to go to Essex office--we got there around 10:15 and finished around 12:35.

Ya..they're good about not being open when it's convenient for people.. wouldn't want to be open when the 'customers' are not working...

Although in Phoenix (which does me no good now that am in Texas) I was surprised they were even open at all on Saturdays...(some, not all) and even opened late one day a week...oww..how considerate..

Glad it worked out for you though...

Not quite.

I have to make at least one more trip to MVA (to renew my licence) this year, maybe more (depending on when we find time to have Pras do driving lessons).

At least I can renew the tag by mail or online.

Cherry: I can totally empathize with you on this. We have been to the MVA three times trying to get a Photo ID card. This last time we were told that instead of the photo ID card, "M" must get a MD driver's license because he's already licensed in his home country...okay but this is the first time we are hearing this after being to MVA 3 times already. And of course there is a completely different process for getting a DL. Then when we finally got a # to make the application we were told we need to come back with an appt. because his visa is expired. Doesn't matter that the I-94 is still in effect. The frustrating part is that you get different info every time you go there! I try not to blow my top often becuse what's the point? But this time I was close to screaming! Luckily after ALL of the trips to the MVA we know exactly what's needed now.

In theory, I could renew by mail, but for me that would not be any more convenient (as I'm 43, I would have to have a doctor complete and sign the "vision certification" portion of the renewal form--most doctor appointments would be during working hours; and for this, I would have to fork out some $$).
