Let's talk numbers and not speculate. FY16 3rd quarter statistics are just released yesterday. https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/Reports%20and%20Studies/Immigration%20Forms%20Data/Naturalization%20Data/N400_performancedata_fy2016_qtr3.pdf

USCIS field offices adjudicated ~210 thousand cases last quarter. Number of applications are on the rise. Roughly 525 thousand cases are still pending.

Let's compare it with the previous quarter's numbers, FY16 2nd quarter https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/Reports%20and%20Studies/Immigration%20Forms%20Data/Naturalization%20Data/N400_performancedata_fy2016_qtr2.pdf . In that quarter they adjudicated ~197 thousand cases.

So it is true they processed more cases (6% more) but they also received more (13% more), current backlog is 17% higher than last quarter. So, if you are using "rushed" to imply they are reducing backlogs, no they are not. But they have processed more cases for sure.

Check out the N-400 May filers thread for frustrated folk like me whose cases have been stalled. Blows that theory right out of the water.
