Hello Vjers,

I talked to an agent at NVC who confirmed that they received my case yesterday and that it takes 2 weeks to get it all in the system. Should I call every couple of days to see if I can get the case number or does it really take 2 weeks?

I have read on this forum that some people got their numbers on the phone and were able to pay and do choice of agent even before they got their welcome letter?

Your input will appreciated.

thanks!

You have a few weeks of waiting for your case number to be assigned. Wait until about 2 weeks before you start calling for the case and IIN.

You cannot pay the any fees until you get the welcome letter. Once you receive the welcome letter that will be the first indication that the AOS fee is available to be paid. However you can fill out the DS-261 (make sure to call to have it reviewed) the importance of having the Ds-261 reviewed is that it unlocks the IV fee. How things work in the NVC world is both fees will be invoiced at the same time, but you can't pay both at the same time. When you pay the AOS it will be showing "in process" then change to "Paid" thats when you could have gone ahead and pay the IV fee BUTTTT without the Ds-261 reviewed it would remain locked and not available to be paid. NVC would have eventually unlock the IV, but it will take them weeks to eventually get to the DS-261 to have it reviewed so thats where you be proactive and do the calling after you fill it out.

You have to have a valid reason to expedite your case. If approved your case will be sent directly to the embassy. From there all contacts will be via the embassy.

Alright, is there a link for embassy stage then?

Its the same as the NVC stage. The pupose of NVC is they are the "middle man" for the embassy. They collect fees and check the docs before they are sent to the embassy. So gather the same docs as if you were sending them to NVC. You would pay the fees to the embassy on the day of the interview. If your expedite was approve just call or email your embassy about your expedited case and interview date.

No you don't have to wait till AOS fee shows paid.

There are two barcode sheet. One you will receive in the welcome email from NVC also called as cover sheet. We use this sheet to check all the documents that we are sending to NVC. For the AOS and IV barcode sheet you have to print from the caec website where you made the payment. Click on in process in the AOS fee section. Scroll down to the bottom on the page and thats where you will find to document cover sheet. Make two copies of this page. Use on for AOS document and another one for IV documents.

Good Luck!

Thanks i will try this Edited by KSMA

Ksma, when did you complete choice of agent (ds-261)? And did u call them to have it reviewed or you waited till they sent u email with welcome letter? Btw i did form ds-261 on 9/26/2016.thnx

I submitted ds 261 on sep 23. Then i waited for 2 days to get aos fee invoiced. But it was not unlocked. So i called nvc yesterday. She refused to do review, and told me to wait for welcome email.I got email this morning.so 4 days after case no i paid aos fee

Thats AWESOME!!! If you haven't already make sure you get the DS-261 reviewed or else you wouldn't be able to pay the IV fee right after the AOS show paid.

How to know if its been reviewed or not? Edited by KSMA

Finally got our notification that our case was sent to the NVC today (9/27)! We got our NOA-2 on August 31, so it's been a bit of a longer wait than we expected. I think I'll give the NVC a call around this time next week to see if they've gotten it - does that sound about right, timing-wise?

No, you need to send the cover sheet from your welcome letter. You can also send your own if you want to.

I saw a reference above to someone saying you have to go to the documents page and print two copies... I don't think that's right. I was emailed the cover sheets. The process has changed sometime during this year.

I went to point out that almost every question asked here in the last day or two is covered very well in the NVC Process Wiki. It isn't 100% up to date (I put in some suggestions but they haven't been addressed yet) but it will serve you very well. There's nothing wrong with asking for clarification but the process is much more clearly explained in the NVC Process Wiki than in questions scattered throughout this topic. Hundreds, maybe thousands have used that advice, so you know it is well-vetted.
