I am getting ready for NVC stage and have question related to I-864. I only have tax return for last 2 years because I didn't earn any income in 2013 and my parents claimed me as a dependent so I was not required to fill tax return. So below are the questions and any input will be greatly helpful:

1) Do I say "yes" or "no" to question where it ask if I have filled tax return for three most recent tax yer?

2) What do I need to submit as supporting documents to show that I was not required to file tax return?

3) Is there anything else that I need to submitted with i-864 to support above claim?

I hope I can help you here.

1. I wish I could help you there but it seems you filed for 2 years and not 3. If I did that I would say no and fill the years I filed and then explain in the explanation why I wrote about 2 and not 3 years and explain why I didn't file.

2. I believe you have to get something from the IRS or explain why you are exempt from filing and not working suffice as an explanation.

3. I am not sure what you mean with that question. What do you mean "above claim"?

They should know what scan date is, its mean when they enter in there system, ask them when they received.

Finally after 3 weeks of approval Case sent to department of state. How long it will now take for NVC to recieve my case?

3-4 weeks is average for NVC to receive the case from USCIS and more important to issue you the IV bills so you can start the process. Once they received all your civil docs and give you a scan date, it will be another 3-6 weeks of waiting until CC/ case closed and you get your interview date. So you are better of to NOT read this topic here yet and see all those happy people getting CCs since you have about 2 months ahead of you still :content: .

As for me SCAN DATE was 15 Aug. so hoping for a CC soon. As for 3 N/A my AOS says EXEMPT and I guess it will stay that way.

Yes, I will put No and fill the years I filed tax for and explain why i didn't file tax. Not sure if IRS would provide anything on exempt as I didn't file because I didn't earn any money that year. For 3rd, question I meant to say, what documents do I need to show I didn't earn any income?

Thanks

I think if you do a bit of Google research about the exempt thing or follow the instructions given on i864 form I believe it does tell you what you need to provide if you didn't file taxes.

Now for no income, this is what I did and it works. I wrote a letter explaining why I wasn't working or I didn't have income. I said I wasn't working because I was a student.

Still waiting waiting waiting... I thought I would have seen those 3 N/As by now! I'm worried about that false checklist and the supervisor review, even though they told me just to ignore it... or maybe I worry because they told me to ignore it! Can you imagine if any other industries sent as many false checklists as the NVC seems to? "Oh, sorry, those results saying you have lung cancer were supposed to go to someone else."

11/19/15 Married
