Congratulations did they email you on a Saturday? I'm so confused if I'm going to get an email, text or letter in the mail. It's so inconsistent

I agree, they are inconsistent. For my particular case, I've received emails and texts on the same day, approx 1 wk before hardcopy is received in the mail.

So the NVC has assigned us a case number and I received their email and I'm starting the next steps. On the Document Cover sheet that the NVC sent me it has "petitioner's civil documents" listed. What does this mean?

Also, I'm wondering if there are any graduate students on this forum who include their 1098-T with proof of income. If I only submit my W-2s it won't show all of what I earn as I am only paid as an employee of the university for the quarters that I'm teaching while fellowship grants make up the rest of my income. Also, in terms of current income, if you are on fellowship, what do you guys do? 1098-T is of course only issued at the end of the tax year. I have some pay stubs but they don't show all of my income because, again, I am paid as an employee only for the terms that I'm teaching and my fellowship $ makes up the bulk of my income this year. I'm thinking letter from your department showing your fellowship amount? Thanks for any tips...

On the 1st I received an email that my I-129 was closed due to the visa being available through another means. I called and they told me they did not know why because my I-130 was showing as still pending. They opened a ticket and on the 2nd it came back as the I-129 had been closed correctly. The I-130 was still showing as received only. On Saturday morning on the 3rd, I got up at 6:30 and checked the status and it was still as received. At 8:30, an email came in notifying me that we had been approved as of the 2nd.  I checked the site and it was updated with the approved status at that time.

From the responses I got it seems that you still get notified of the change in I-129 2-4 days before you hear about the change in the I-130.  It also seems that it takes a while from when the decision is made before everything makes its way through the system.

Hi,

I was wondering if at the nvc stage, did you send the petitioner's divorce decree or just documents for the beneficiary/applicant?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you do if your petition is for a spouse visa. That way they know you are both in compliance with the USA marriage laws and was cleared to marry/re-marry. Only send copies, originals would need to be taken to the Interview.

Question for the folks who have received their NVC case numbers:

How long did it take to receive your set of instructions after filling out the DS-261? The operator I spoke to told me that it can take up to 4 weeks for them to email that and that I cannot review the DS-261 over the phone and unlock my fees until then. Anyone else run into this?

They told me it could take up to 4 weeks as well but it took 2.

I have a question about the package you send to the NVC. On the wiki on this site here: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php?title=NVC_Process . it says to include 2 passport size photos of the beneficiary. However, on the cover sheet the NVC says there is nothing about sending this. There is no mention of this on the NVC website either. Did you guys send passport photos as part of your package sent to NVC? is this perhaps outdated info on the wiki?

My lawyer had me send 2 passport size photos to her to send in to NVC so I'd say you should include it just to be safe. It might be outdated, but I'd rather send things they don't need than send the packet and be missing something.

You can also call NVC and talk to one of their customer service reps. They're quite helpful about documentation.

Hello, there is another forum available for NVC filers with lots of great information regarding this. It looks like the wait is up to 11 weeks but most people have their cases complete in 8-9 weeks barring any checklists for additional or revised documents. At this point all you can do is wait for your case to get to the review department and the case to be complete.
