Hands down the most frustrating process. spoke to a representative on the day my petition was transferred and was told that if I didn't hear any news on my petition within 2 months to call and ask to speak with supervisor and that my petition currently had 44 days left pending. Well fast forward 2 months and ask to speak with a supervisor and she tells me that my petition has 44 days still pending. Clearly they don't know what they are doing

A great idea, indeed. I also tried this morning and it hasn't been invoiced. In trying to access the DS261 link on the CEAC site, I also received a message saying that my case was ineligible for further processing. Cause for concern, or does it just say that because I'm trying to access it early in your guys opinion?

@fufurajrocket & @j0hnj3ly if you've both already tried, and still doesn't work. You should call NVC and ask for the Case & IIN # again. 

There were some members here on VJ that were provided with either an incorrect case # or IIN number.

Agree with Kelly. Either they're still entering your case into the system or they may have given you mismatching invoice numbers. Call them again to reconfirm.

 

When they gave mine, the invoice number was right but not the case number. When trying to log in, it told me my numbers didn't match.

I just submitted my DS-261 form. When can i make the payment? I went to make the payment and i keep getting an error stating my case is in the process of terminitation 😐

About a day or two. Call them to review it now.

I called and the lady told me i have to wait for my welcome package inorder for them to review. And she told me it will take 3 weeks for me to pay my fees 😕

Keep calling. The first three people I talked to refused to give me my case number. The fourth person finally did. It seems like there's a lot of variability in how helpful and useful a given customer service representative is. Keep on calling!!

Agree with @agripa . You should keep calling, @Mia12392 .

It really depends on whom you get on the other side to help, some very nice, kind and very helpful, others not so much.

Fees are automatically unlocked based on certain updates they make in the system (e.g., when your ds 261 is reviewed or when the bank processes your payment and updates the fee).  Typically, you receive the welcome letter when it unlocks which is why the welcome letter probably didn't get sent yet.

 

the steps we are providing inthe forum helps to save time where possible and therefore won't go exactly in the same order as what you're hearing on the phone.

 

ds 261 will unlock first. Few days later the aos fee will unlock. Once the ds 261 is reviewed + a week or once your aos fee reflects paid + 2,3 days (whichever is furthest out), your IV fee will unlock. For this reason, the earlier you call to review your ds 261, the earlier your IV fee will unlock. Otherwise the ds 261 may sit there until someone decides they have availability to review it which can be several weeks. 

 

The nvc folks will never  give you an actual timeline . They will only give you the maximum amount it will take per standard process so I wouldn't bother asking them when. However, calling them to get your case information early and to review your ds 261 is something you can do. Only thing aside from case/iin you would need (both of which you already have)  from the welcome letter is the nvc checklist page and by the time you're ready to submit your documents, they probably would have sent it. If not, you can always ask them to email it to you.

hello all

Its been 6.5 months since my PD and my case is still stuck at Nebraska. I have a couple of questions regarding filing tax return which is due tomorrow. I have seen that there are two options 1) married filing separately or 2) married filing jointly. It seems filing jointly is more beneficial in order to get maximum returns. But how complex is the overall process? Do beneficiary  need an 'Individual tax identification number' (ITIN) for both options or is it just when filing jointly? What are the pros and cons with these 2 options in terms of NVC processing ? It would be great if somebody can give me an insight.

I opted for married filing separately to save the paperwork hassle and will probably amend next year when he gets a ssn.
