K1 Visa and the mystery of the London US Embassy

Hi Everyone,

I've been using this forum as an amazing source of information since I submited my documents in May (especially Igors list which is amazing!) but I now find myself lost and need some advice.

So I was accepted at the USCIS and my case passed to the NVC. I called them after a few weeks and they gave me a case number, invoice number etc. and told me my package had been sent to the US Embassy in London on 23rd August and that I should complete my DS-160.

Here's where I've come unstuck and need help...so the CEAC website (in the immigrant dropdown) shows "In Transit".

I followed the instructions and completed my DS-160, I've had all my jabs and have my police certificate/photos etc....so....my dilemma is, when do I submit my notification of readiness?

I mistakenly booked an interview (and cancelled it) and the embassy said that was fine and not to worry. They told me to wait for the email and that would have the interview date and instructions to follow...

So...I'm waiting, but whilst waiting I did my DS-160 and arranged my medical - but when do I submit my notification of readiness? Should I wait until the CEAC says "ready" or does it only say "ready" once you've done your medical and submitted notification of readiness??

Please help :-)

That status thing doesn't always work perfectly. You submit the Readiness when your "ready" to interview, meaning you've gathered all your documents, have the I-134 in hand, and booked the medical. You won't get notified of the interview date. You pick your own. Follow the London steps here on the embassy website https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-a-fiancee-visa-instructions/?_ga=1.21353851.1134612612.1470289951

You know, I've looked at various instructions and steps I should follow. I really appreciate the reassurance - so I can submit notification of readiness whenever and regardless of the status....perfect!!

Phiew!! This stops me stressing about everything....I've been pretty calm the whole process, but this part has got me in real state!! :star:

Thank you

Lisaonnet - thank you for posting this question! I was wondering the exact same thing. Our file was sent from NVC to London on 8/19 and our status still shows as "in-transit". I was starting to get worried that something went awry, but I'm on relatively high alert since we waited so long between our NOA2 and the case number being assigned.

Nich-Nick - thank you for your response! We will proceed as if they have our file unless we hear otherwise!

You may have been reading in the K1 forum and what happens in other countries. Each consulate varies. And the U.K. says wait until you get your letter of instruction in the mail, which will be the same link I gave you. That's pretty much all the instruction they send. And you get a copy of the petition. You don't actually have to have that letter.

The only issue you may have is the appointment booking may say your number isn't valid. This is all new since May by the way. Some people got that message when they tried too early. So what triggers the magic time that the appointment system lets you in?? Not sure. Is it having the ready status, them getting the physical file, or maybe your readiness form triggers it? Just try again the next day. Most people got in a day or so later when they got the "file not found", or "invalid number" message the first time they tried.

Thank you, so just to clarify - I can submit my notification of readiness when the system still says "in transit" and when I've booked my medical...but before I have my medical results.

This process has turned me into a control freak!! Ha ha

It's all laid out in the embassy instructions.

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/applying-for-the-visa/

Paraphrase of those instructions:

If you have been notified that the petition has been approved (YES?)

and you have received the Notice of Action, Form I-797 (YES?),

and NVC has advised you that your application has been transferred to the Embassy in London for processing (YES?),

you are required to complete the following 5 steps to prepare for your immigrant visa interview.

Step 1. DS-160

Step 2. Assemble all your documents. See list.

Step 3. Schedule medical. (Does not say attend medical or have results)

Step 4. When 1-3 are done, tell Embassy you are ready by submitting Readiness Form.

Step 5. Pick interview, pay fee, schedule courier.

The having medical results at embassy and wait for an appointment letter changed the first week of May when they added one more layer or automation....schedule your own appointment and print the confirmation.

Follow the embassy instruction page.

DS160 done, readiness submitted and interview scheduled.

It's weird, my original interview date was still there? I rescheduled it just to be sure.

Thank you so much for your help!!
