Hi.

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, anyways I hope you can share with me your thoughts.

My boyfriend, who is a US citizen and I (I am a male. Yes, we are a gay couple) are planning to be together soon, so we are planning to get me a K1 visa. However, I am concerned about having our marriage stay as a secret from the government (of my country). In my country, homosexuality is illegal and if I get caught married to a same gender, they can imprison me and will deem me as defaming my country. Thus, I think it's important for me to keep our mariage in the future as a secret for the sake of my safety (when I come back to visit family). Besides, I also need to avoid my family from knowing about this relationship, because I don't think they are ready to know about it. My country does not allow its citizens to have dual citizenship. Considering that my family is in the country, I do not (or at least, have not yet) want to lose my citizenship.

If I apply and am issued a fiancé visa, will the government of my country know about our plan to get married?

Thank you! :)

I am pretty sure they may be aware of it; but also the interview process is done through the US consulate/embassy there not your own local type dealings so where are there it is illegal it is legal in the U.S.; but I do understand your hesitation and even fear of it.

As for citizenship, you shouldnt lose that untl you apply for US citizenship sometime down the road. Even as a "Permanent Resident" you're still technically a citizen of your home country.

Heres some Q&A over some of this.
