For everyone else having fun with it, remember that your relationship looks weird to someone else. Do you enjoy having to defend it? (not much, by what I read here every day)

Hey, I'm just trying to figure out what any woman would want with two men.

One's enough trouble in my book......... :innocent:

Is it a relationship when it involves more than two people? Or is it a committee?

Poor little smiley dude!!!!

What if the immigrant husband ever felt like Mr. Smiley Dude, and decided to divorce Mrs. Polly A.

Could he possibly file to adjust his status based upon spousal abuse?

Im kind of surprised at all the support this woman is recieving. Im just wondering.... if this was a man instead of a woman proposing this bs, would the replies remain consistent? Many a time, guys have been flamed out because of breaking up with the fiancee, then making plans to meet 2 more. I fail to see how this is any different. But i guess if you slap a fancy word on it, like polyamory, then there is nothing wrong with it.

Honestly I dont know why i feel so strongly about this......

Its definitely not for everybody. You have to be willing to let go of jealousy and possessiveness. Not everyone can do that.

It's definitely not for everybody. Jealousy and possessiveness aren't the only things. There's more than likely to be anger or disgust having to sleep in a wet spot made from someone else! :P

Not to mention other "things" that might crop up....hope they have good insurance.

C'mon guys...it's very VERY simple:

Probably due to your upbring and the construct of what a "normal" relationship should be. If you understand normal as just being a social construct part of our society, you will realize that all kinds of relationships are possible. You don't have to follow someones lifestyle choice, just accept that they are different. Agree to disagree.

I'm not going to touch the other aspects of this, but regarding taxes:

A spouse is NEVER considered a dependent for tax purposes. If she's being claimed as a dependent on her boyfriend's tax returns, that's evidence that they are NOT considering themselves married for tax purposes.

See IRS Publication 501, page 9, column 1, near the bottom, where it says "Your spouse is never considered your dependent".

Spouses file as married (either married filing jointly or married filing separately), instead of claiming each other as dependents. If they file jointly, they are generally each allowed their own personal exemption, thus their joint return would have both personal exemptions. But neither of those exemptions would be for a dependent.

I wonder if there will be more situations like this arising to get around the problems gay couples in LDR's face.

Actually the last polyamorous relationship discussed in these forums was a man and two women. One woman was the foreigner, became the spouse of the man and the 3 of them have lived happily ever after. AOS filed without issue.

As for why you feel strongly, I can't answer. :P But I can tell you that in polyamorous relationships all parties make the boundary decisions together, just like a couple does (should). In my mind that is the fundamental difference between that type of relationship and one where the perception is that one woman is as good as the next and exchangable (which isn't necessarily my perception of those guys, but what seems to happen here on the boards).

Electricity is really just organized lightning.
