Some people are saying that the President of Mexico said that he told Trump during their meeting that Mexico wasn't paying for the wall.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto flatly contradicted Donald Trumps statement that the two did not discuss who would pay for the GOP nominees proposed multi-billion-dollar border wall, saying, I made it clear Mexico will not pay."

Who pays for the wall? We didnt discuss it, Trump said in response to a reporter's question at a joint conference following the closed-door meeting between the two in Mexico City.

But in a tweet from Peña Nieto's official Twitter account sent later on Wednesday, the president said, "At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear Mexico will not pay for the wall."

Mexico's foreign minister, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, tweeted that Peña Nieto had "expressed the grievance and outrage of Mexicans for insults and offenses" by Trump in their private meeting.

Update: The Clinton campaign's John Podesta sent out two responses to Trump's meeting, one before and one after Peña Nieto's statement that the wall had come up. The first one said that Trump "choked" by not raising the subject. The second, after the Mexican president weighed in, was even less generous: "It turns out Trump didn't just choke, he got beat in the room and lied about it."

Kaine pondered the odds that Trump would have avoided saying anything about the wall and Mexico paying for it during the meeting after making it a central point of his campaign for more than a year.

"I find that kind of ridiculous," Kaine said. "Even if it didn't come up, he choked and forgot to say that to the president of Mexico after he's been saying it every day for the last many months?"

Trump's statement that he did not bring up the wall during the meeting, Kaine added, "shows that he sort of folded under pressure and didn't have the backbone to say to the Mexican president what he's been saying over and over."
