Angering the embassies / NVCs...

Hi new here and promise to set-up my timeline (etc.) soon.

The 28th will mark exactly one month since we recieved our NOA2. The notice said my wife was "approved" and that they sent our petition (1-130) to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where it would then be directed to the proper embassy (Bangkok).

The NOA also states that we should not be bugging them for 90 days. But that's not my nature. I have spent about 20 solid hours reading this (fantastic) forum and see that many people contact both the NVC and the respective embassy ..early and often.

Obviously I would like to call the NVC in Portsmouth and ask them how the heck things are going. But I am afraid to do so. I have this fear that some angry, underpaid staff memeber will answer, get POed and put our petition somewhere undesirable. Am I being paranoid? How would you pose the questions if you were to call?

Again I am very grateful for this forum. It has cost me my weekend...but I think it was time well spent. ;)

BTW, I hired an agency in Thailand to secure this visa. I did not know of forums like this and was pushed to do so (100,000 bt!).

I would appreciate any and all input that anyone can give us related to the timeframe and actually securing this visa. In turn, I will do my best to document our journey and help others when I am able.

Thank you in advance,

Jones

You are certainly allowed to inquire as to the status of your approved case - the NVC has a phone number and email address available to the public - check the NVC forum for that info and simply call or email and ask for information. They cannot get POed and do something with your petition.

I have never come across anything in the CFR indicating that they can deny an application for an inquiry on a case. They are not out to get you! I would be polite and courteous when speaking with them. I ALWAYS repeat their ID numbers back to them to confirm that I got it correct and I always log the time and details of the call in MS Outlook

I don't pester them on a daily basis either. I do frequently call numerous times to get the best three out of five vote. When I am given conflicting information, I DO call it to their attention and give them the name and ID and what I was told from my Outlook contacts log.

My case has been severly derailed due to events following Katrina.

I would not be fearful of calling them. However; that being said, I would research carefully and thouroughly before calling. If they indicate it is going to take "X" number of days to accomplish something up front, why not give them the opportunity to do so. Yes it will probably be more rapid but that is the nature of the beast.

If a ton of superficial calls were eliminated, perhaps they could use those resources to process applications more quickly.

Thank you for the replies! Sorry to hear about your delay Tiberonesuave. Mother nature can be a real......

I totally concur with your statement about leaving the NVC alone so they can do their job, w/o question calls must slow them down. But they request you not call for 90 days! I think that's asking a bit much!

Anyway, I thank you again and wish you all success!

Anyone know how to track the DHL from NH to BKK?
