Hey guys!!
We are still jam packed with appointments for my husband and don't know anything new yet. They just upped his meds and we shall see.

I have a job interview tomorrow, 3rd shift stocker... Not sure how this will work out practically. The job is 10pm to 6am. (if they don't fire him) My husband works 2pm to 10.30pm and we have no childcare. This is the ONLY bite I got out of 60 applications so far (I have now put in a few more). This is sad!!!
There are "help wanted" signs anywhere, I have 3 degrees and the only call I get is to re-stock shelves in the middle of the night :(
And I am more than qualified for all the jobs I have now applied for.

But like a PP said, a $300 paycheck is better than $0.
I don't know how things will work out though, it means leaving our kids with the baby alone for at least 45 mins until hubby gets home at night. It will also probably mean no sleep for me, because baby will NOT stay with daddy for any amount of time, so when will I get at least 6 hours of sleep (forget 8, it is just not possible).
In fact if I get off at 6am, I will be home 6.30am, need to get kids ready for school at 8am, then I get to maybe sleep 8 until 1pm when hubby needs to start getting ready for work, so that is 5hrs a day IF the baby does not throw a mommy fit and need me or if hubby is not severely sick or something.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!!! :) Hope I get it!!!

PS. Our green cards came today, about 5 weeks after I paid the fee.

Maybe you can arrange to start a little later? These overnight stocking positions have a lot of turnover and they might be willing to be flexible.

How old is your oldest child? There are age requirements that vary by state in America as to how old is old enough to watch younger siblings. I believe in my state, they'd have be at least 13 to be left alone with younger kids.

That's something but you can do better, Marrienne. Keep at it!

Do you want to share your degrees or qualifications? Then people could help better.

If I'm not mistaken, for teaching at schools you gotta get state's certification (at least for public schools).

In any case, with your graphic design background you can definitely look for freelance/contractor jobs and those you most likely will be able to do remotely, so that would also resolve some of the babysitting troubles. Also look at startups' job posting on AngelList. You need to prepare a portfolio for this though.

Yes a scam.

They are so desperate for preschool teachers here they've been advertising on the radio, etc. You wouldn't perchance want to move to Northern Minnesota, would you?

Yes, that job is a SCAM. Do not respond to these people. They are out to steal any money they can from you and then your identity.

You may be able to find work on fivrr for graphic design and HTML so you could work from home designing logos etc. for people. There are a lot of websites were you can post your fee and people will pay to have you design their websites etc.

I work in HR so I will do a little digging to see where people are selling their skills online.

Praying for you Marrienne...you sound like an amazing human being!!

Another thought, a lot of people especially for English as a Second Language will pay large for tutoring. You could do this in your home or theirs on your hours. You could also look at online foreign schools for people who want to learn to speak English and tutor via Skype, Facetime etc. Put out an ad and see if there are any ESL schools that are looking for teachers.

Yep, I was going to suggest ESL.

Another idea, what about teaching Classical Greek at a private school? Usually no need for certs there, depends if you have them in your area.

Another idea: You could make a home day care. You watch a few children plus your own at your own home. It's not super lucrative but you get some money and save on daycare (but you have to open your home to some other kids). Check your state for licensing, if it's required.

What types of jobs are you looking for? You suggested you had a targeted search.

Greek would be amazing too especially for those wanting to go to medical or law school....all you would need is a couple of clients to start off and word will spread...people will pay very well for their children's education and to give them any advantage!

Not sure how many Greeks are fluent in classical Greek, same number of Italians who know Latin?

I have yet to meet a Greek who could teach Classical Greek. But then I can only swear in Welsh.

I did have a year of Latin, but beyond amo, amas etc and vacca all very hazy. I did not do Greek.

Okay, I got another idea. You could do some side work as a wedding photographer. People pay a lot for this (like $1000+ for one day's shoot). For both photography and graphic design you'd need a portfolio to show your stuff.
