Does consular officer need to see the certificate of unmarried/single

My fiance was divorced before and has the divorce certificate. Does he need to go and get the certificate for his single status? He said there is no place to issue such certificate and everything is in the government computer system. Does anyone know where to get such certificate?

Certificates of single status are only for people who've never been married before (and if he's a USC, the US doesn't issue those). The divorce certificate IS his proof that he is free to marry.

Thanks for the reply. He is Chinese and went to check with the local agency and they said they don't issue such any more. So he will just present divorce paper then.

Different cities will still issue the certificates, because not all cities have the records filed in the government computers, but as mentioned, the divorce certificate is what you need since he was already married and now divorced.

Thank you. He just submitted DS160 and awaits P3. Does he need to pay the visa fee now or before the interview? When he pays the fee, does he need to print out the CGI fee amount page and take to the bank?

Hi, I checked the image you posted regarding P3 and P4. It says applicant needs to check the visa application status should be "completed" but not "reopen". Where do I check this visa application status? All we got was the "submitted" confirmation page.
