Hi. I'm currently in the same situation. I did not enroll for the fall semester and I tried calling my school before and I told them my plans and that I got married. She advised me that I should enroll. After talking to people here and doing further research I now know that since I'm an immediate relative I'm not required to enroll as long as my AOS application is pending. When I talked to the lady at my school she asked me to come in anyway to talk to her so she'll know that I didn't just run away and violated my status. My questions is did any of you had to do this? I know when I go there she'll probably just tell me what she told me on the phone. Would this affect my AOS you think?

In my case, I just told my DSO, or the school staff who took care of me by phone and email. She congratulated me and that was it. I'm waiting for the interview date right now ☺️

03/15/16. Sent out I-130 and AOS package but instead of filing it concurrently, I misunderstood and filed it separately.

03/23/16. Phoenix lockbox transferred our case (I-130 only) to Nebraska, cashed check, received NOA via text/email.

03/28/16. Received NOA1 I-130 hard copy by USPS

04/08/16. Received the package that we sent to Chicago. Case rejected due to improper filing? We sent it back to Chicago together with I-130 NOA 1 that we received last week (also RFE just in case too) sameday.

04/11/16. Package I-485, I-765 arrived at Chicago lockbox the second time.

04/19/16. Received NOA1 for I-485&I-765 via Text&email with new case number. They also cashed the check today.

05/02/16. Received Biometric letter, scheduled on May 9

05/09/16. Biometric completed

05/25/16. I-485 Case updated online, case is ready to be scheduled

06/29/16. I-130 Case updated online, case was transferred..

06/30/16. Submit USCIS E-request to update/expedite I-765

07/11/16. Received EAD By mail

09/09/16. Interview date is scheduled on Oct 14

10/14/16. Approved, status changed to New card is in production

10/15/16. Status online for I-130 & I-485 updated to Case was approved

10/20/16. Status online for I-485 updated to Card was picked up by USPS with tracking number.

10/21/16. Received NOA2 for I-130 & I-485

10/22/16. Received the card from USPS ?

Just curious, as your flag shows saudi but you've written in filipino language in other threads, hence the confusion.

I went to school last Spring. That was my first semester. My husband and I decided to get married this summer. So I decided to focus instead on getting my papers fixed and opt not to enroll for fall. I'm applying for an EAD as well so I may work for a couple of months before going back to school

Personally I opted to stay in school as that was why I came here. It definitely hurts to pay the high tuition, but I knew that before I came here. I also work on campus and if I would not have enrolled,

I would have lost my job on campus as I either need to keep my F-1 status and work or give it up and have no job. Since my EAD is still pending, I would not have been able to just work.

A friend was also on an F-1, got married and dropped out of school. She was questioned about it in the interview as it will show a breach of your F-1 status. However, it did not have an effect on her

green card approval. I would be prepared to be questioned about it. Especially because you only studied one semester.

You should continue with school.

While an overstay is forgiven for immediate relatives of US citizens, there are no guarantees that your AOS will be approved. No attending school is a violation of your F1 status (the only legal status you had) and come interview time, this is not looked upon kindly by USCIS. They may think you only obtained the F1 visa as a fast track to immigration, bypassing th K1 and CR1/IR1 processes. You are still a non-resident alien (F1 student) but you are acting as though you now have special privileges because you married a USC. You don't. So when they ask about why your F1 status was abandoned, I hope you have an ecuse they will consider.

My question is for F1 students who are or have been in the same situation. If you are going judge and assume things, please kindly stop replying to this thread. You are being very unhelpful and plain rude. I'm in no way an expert to immigration laws that's why I have a lot of questions and ask for guidance for those who do or at least have experienced that same things I'm going through right. Which is what this forum is all about isn't it? So please stop asking unrelated questions just to quench your curiosity.
