Unfortunately, I received a 10 year green card. I'm talking to them now in regards with the I-90 and putting up a service request so that they can expedite the replacement. Well, I guess this is better than getting nothing at all. I might just get a temporary stamp for now on my Passport so that at least I can go ahead and get my DL here in NY.

The other weird thing about my green card is that they put me in the CU6 Category. Which is for Cuban Citizens, so I guess this is the root of their mistake. Either way, I'm happy I got approved and well, I have to start working on sending my I-90 to them.

Hoping for all to hear great news soon :)

No expedite for getting it faster BUT the stamp in your passport will work just as well as the card it self so no worries there.

Sounds they they really have made mistakes with your GC.

The Tier 2 person I talked to sent out a service request for my card. Yeah, I know right but the stamp will do. The fact that I got the green card under a year is already a blessing, so no complains.

Sounds like they were processing your papers same time with another, and got them mixed up.

It happens a lot sadly.

Also... in your case, you may want to go back and review your prior year tax returns to see if amending from an ITIN to SSN will produce any additional refund due. Certain tax benefits are only eligible with a valid SSN and not an ITIN. It could make a difference, depending on your financial situation ;)

I just had the chance to read the approval notice for my green card and it says that I am a Permanent resident and will be given 10 year gc. I am now going to call them because I know that this will cause trouble when it comes to some other processing I have to do.

I hope the green card I will receive tomorrow says 2 years instead of 10.

Hey. I'm a July filer but I was just browsing this thread. I was wondering what the big deal is to get a 10 yr card instead of 2? Seems better to me or is there something I am missing? Since you had so many replies of people saying that this is not good. Are you adjusting from k1? Does the 10 yr card interfere with the ROC process? It shouldn't right? After 3 yrs as a permanent resident you should be still able to file anyway. :)

My husband's Tanzanian passport expired. Will that affect our approval? I don't think they will stamp an expired passport and even if they did, it wouldn't be worth anything. He would have to go to Washington, DC in person to get it renewed and we don't have the money for that... Any ideas?

Well, for K1 people we have to go through ROC, if I take this 10 year gc and stroll around like nothing happened, there is a big chance that once my ROC window starts and I submit one, my case will be outright denied because I have a 10 year gc and I will never have the chance to file for citizenship not until they finally accept my application. If they will allow it.

In all, I am doing this because it is the right thing to do. I don't want to be an ignorant and take advantage of the flaws of the system. If I have to go through the process again, I will - if it means that I am doing what the law requires me to do.

It will interfere, that's why, I want to straighten it out before it all goes down the drain. :)

Also... in your case, you may want to go back and review your prior year tax returns to see if amending from an ITIN to SSN will produce any additional refund due. Certain tax benefits are only eligible with a valid SSN and not an ITIN. It could make a difference, depending on your financial situation ;)

No it wont help in our case. But when he got his ITIN April of this year, we amended the past three filing years to married, filed jointly, and received 3 additional refunds.

Exactly, its the right thing to do, cause just because USCIS messed up, its your responsibility to report it. Otherwise, they can come back at you later if they wanted to, such as applying for citizenship.

I really hope they move their tails and get all this fixed for you super soon.

My husband's Tanzanian passport expired. Will that affect our approval? I don't think they will stamp an expired passport and even if they did, it wouldn't be worth anything. He would have to go to Washington, DC in person to get it renewed and we don't have the money for that... Any ideas?

My husbands expired too earlier this year, but filled out the forms and sent to the Moroccan Consulate in NY, and they sent him a new one within one week.

Check on line for this with the Tanzanian Consulate to see if you can apply for a new one, download the forms and send to them with new passport pics.. We did it all via USPS mailings.
