Received my EAD/AP in the mail over the weekend! So thrilled, and such a relief.

Started work up again today and feel a lot better being able to contribute financially.

However...it does raise additional questions: I arrived on a J1 Working Holiday Visa, but the J1 expired on November 14th. I am applying for an Adjustment of Status (Spouse) and working under an EAD - does this mean I need to pay FICA taxes now?

Not sure what exactly the J1 Working Holiday Visa entails but sounds like you were probably exempt from certain taxes working under it. Now that you are adjusting status to permanent resident you are subject to all applicable taxes.

Been thinking, should of filed the I-131 form, AP, can I still file the form for AP, and send it copy of our receipts , I think this will waive the filing fee of the I-131

Also if no trip is planned, what did you all write in for that question?

Yes, you send in copy of NOA1 from I-485 form and the fee will be waived. You might get the GC before they get to approve the I-131 though since you are so far in the process.

I just wrote "Unknown" on ours since we don't have anything planned.

We are in Houston, its taking over a year for an interview, and we will be interviewed. We have a long way to go before interview day, and will need to get a new medical done right before interview day..

Yep houston are one of those which are very backlogged. I would send it in then.

Already have it all together, I-485 receipt, 2 new passport pictures, and copy of his EAD card. Just need him to sign it, then off it goes.

New status updated. "Case is ready to be scheduled for interview." However apparently there's a 9-10 month wait at the Detroit local office.

I think getting the EAD and AP makes the rest of the wait bearable though.

We have similar timelines and I live in the Troy area too! Just got my EAD and Advance Parole combo card in the mail today. I didnt realize the detroit office is backed up. Im happy to see someone else in the same local office as me! Good luck on your journey!

I am getting the feeling that we will be needing to put in an inquiry next week. Tomorrow will already be 70 days and 42 since biometrics. Next Tuesday will be day 75. I am wondering if it has anything to do with his mother being Muslim. I hope not...

To be fair, I know that the standard AP and EAD approval wait time the USCIS gives is 90 days, so you are still within that range. That's basically the answer we got every time we called USCIS, even when we spoke to Tier 2 representatives.

no no worries. i have zero muslims in my family and waited 45 days for my biometrics and am now on day 65 and no status changed ever. i'm still at fingerprint fee received. but i see myself putting in an inquiry in 10 days, too...

My husband is Muslim, he had no issues to obtain EAD card.

If I'm correct, the EAD time is based on when USCIS received the Bio information , and when back ground check -finger print comes back.
