Last night I got 6 texts from USCIS (bit OTT ha!) informing me both EAD and AP were approved (but I already knew about EAD..) and now both say 'approved' when previously EAD was saying 'card in production'... hoping the card comes in the mail very soon!

Congrats! :)

Hi everyone,

I am stressing out quite a bit... I applied for a Social Security number on September the 12th and hadn't heard back so I went back there two weeks ago and they said it's still pending. I called them this morning and they said that they won't be able to give me a Social Security number until I have something with a longer expiration date because my I-94 expires on November the 1st. This delays everything. I wanted to try to get my driver's license with my Social Security number and the thing that I am stressing about it, we are moving in December and checking out an apartments, but will they accept me living there when I don't have a social security number yet?! I am losing it!

Have you tried and go back with the I-94 again but also bring the NOA1 from the AOS? ... They should give it to you as long as the I-94 is good. I would try another SSN office.

Go back to the Social Security office with the NOA1 from the AOS? The NOA1 does not have an expiration date, so they won't have anything to lean back on. My I-94 will expire on November 1st and they said that they won't issue it because it's in 2 weeks. Even though I already applied on September 12th.

I am panicking.

No it doesn't but it's shows your intent to adjust. (Have seen others who took this with them)

But yes it's correct they won't give it when only 14 days left.

But you can get SSN as soon as you get your EAD and then do your DL.

I just called the Social Security office and they cannot choose the NOA1 (797) as one of the forms. I really just have to wait until I have the EAD. I am just scared about the apartment, because we have to move in December.

I am definitely blaming myself for this. I thought that I couldn't apply for the SS until after we got married for some reason. Not sure why I thought that and now it's too late :-(

When you move, just let the new apartment know your situation! I didn't give them a SSN when my husband and I moved right after I got to the US. As long as your spouse is making enough money to pay the rent and you can show them your passport (for identification) and probably some documents showing you're actually married and adjusting status, you should be fine. :)

I remember our landlord was being really particular about putting my spouses name on the mailbox without his name being on the lease... and they wouldn't put him on the lease without his SSN... So for a bit we were stuck on what to do. I ended up noticing that the names were put on the mailbox with just a generic label printer that I had at my workplace, so I ended up just printing off a label with his name and stuck it below mine on the mailbox haha. Though getting the right size and font took a little work! (I made sure to check with the post office first to make sure this wasn't, like, mail fraud or anything).

Well you could have got it before but also after. So it's really not your fault something just went wrong with the SSN office when you applied.

most people get EAD around 70 days right now so you could be lucky to be approved in November then 14 days for it to be in hand and then another week for the SSN office to send the SSN card. (Should only take a week to get from when you apply)

Hi Myboo123,

Does she have any contract in place or any hourly rate and a minimum number of hours that she works every week? If that's the case, maybe they can write that in a letter and sign it.
