LMAO just got my RFE letter....

They're seriously requesting evidence that my joint sponsor is a us citizen.... even tho I sent in her passport copy AND her birth certificate. I'm so confused

They must have lost it, so at least it's an easy and really quick fix!

I'm with Georgia on this one... they probably lost it.

But quick question, did you send in a Certified Copy of the birth certificate? And for the passport, did you send copies all pages including front and back of passport? Depending on the adjudicator they can be very "detailed" and by the book while others let things slide sometimes.

I did not. I sent in a regular copy of the birth certificate like I did back in the days on my I129F application. The copy of the biographical passport page was just extra, since one document of proof should be enough.

Should we order a official birth certificate?

Yes, totally. Get a "Certified Copy" of the birth certificate... actually, you might want to have at least 2 certified copies on hand.

The adjudicator for your I-129F probably didn't mind the regular copy and signed off on it but each adjudicator is different and some play hard ball, strictly by the book.

Remember this is for the joint/co sponsor they use now.

I mean yes they need the certified copy but if they can get other copies is up to that person.

Yes, you should get a certified copy. I only sent a certified copy of my husband's birth certificate to prove that he's a USC. I didn't get any RFE.

Where in the instructions is it saying that certified copies are needed though?

It's a strong proof that your spouse is a USC. It may not be listed but we have to be more creative to produce strong evidences. I been filing my immigrations papers ever since, I noticed that the less paperworks for evidences I sent the faster they work on it. But of coarse we need to give them a strong, organized evidences and correct forms to present our case. We don't want to bombard them with so much papers that are not necessary, just my opinion.

Should we order a official birth certificate?

Another thing you may want to consider is making sure check the back of your birth certificate and copy both sides if there is anything on the back other than complete blankness.

Or you can be nitpicky like us and send the blank scan of the back anyways :P

I totally agree with being organized and trying not to send too much of useless paperwork. But there is no need to send anything original or certified documents unless it's stated somewhere, it doesn't make it a "strong proof".

So the case has been complete hell for us. :(

We got notification that there was an approval as I stated before.. I knew it was too good to be true. Called USCIS. The girl thought my husband was about to be deported for some reason.. then transferred me to an immigration officer. She felt it was odd he hadn't completed biometrics yet (I agreed). Officer wasn't much help just told us to wait. Today I check the mail and we get a beautiful RFIE. It states I don't make enough, filled something out wrong, etc. So now we feel completely hopeless. I guess I'm going to have a friend co sponsor at this point but I don't even know how to add someone as a co-sponsor... -_- Do I just send over their information with the RFE letter? I also scheduled an infopass appointment because this is a mess. :(
