Hello everyone!

Two weeks ago i applied for a renewal of my Driver License and I was sure i'm getting my DL according to the expiration date of my conditional green card, which is September, 2017.

The more i thought about this, the more i was upset. I've already been in Driver License bureau 4 times for the last 2.5 years .. and got the feeling that i go to DMV as for a job :(

Visit #1: - to get my Driver License on a K1 visa.

Visit #2 - to renew my DL after receiving my EAD #1.

Visit #3 - to renew my DL again with my renewed Employment Authorization ( EAD #2). And I had some "issues" during this process, because an employee from Dep.of Revenue wasn't able to understand what an EAD renewal means...

Visit #4 - my last time, 2 weeks ago, to renew Driver License with a green card

So many stories have been read and heard of, about people having hard time, trying to renew their DL during ROC with an Extention letter.. So the thought that next year i would have to go there AGAIN, and probably fight, made me really sick...

Today i received my Driver License, and i was so surprised to see it has been issued for a period of 7 years!! The letter of "happiness" ! :) :)

Just wanted to share my joy and wish everybody luck with your DL renewal, at any stage of your immigration journey!!!

Congrats! My hubby is still waiting for his 10 year card and until he gets it he can't get a Wisconsin license (his Indiana license is still valid). They told him it's because he needed 6 months left on his extension letter and he was way past that.

Thank you so much!! Really, such a relief to know i won't have to worry about DL during the ROCing, and actually - within the next 7 years..

And feel for you hubby... I've heard in some States it is required to have "something" (I-94, Extension letter and etc ) with at least 6 months of validity to obtain your Driver License.

You must really feel relieved, OP -- a good feeling.

Just this year, we got the renewal notice for Mrs. T-B.'s DL.

We were able to do it like "real people" do, for the first time.

So, as you observe, it DOES get better.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thank you, TBoneTX! It was exactly what I said to my hubby when i received my DL - "I was able to do it like real (normal) people do" :) :)

The immigration process is hard enough to make it through - so many things to worry about, to be focused on and etc...

Hope, it will get better for every State and people won't have to worry, at least, about DL.
