I am filling out the DS-157 form.. and I am curious to what others have filled out for #14 and #15.. As far as I know.. EVERY egyptian male has to do Military service.. and in question 14 it asked if you have any specialized training/ skills, including firearms, explosives... etc... So if you were in the Army .. DOes that mean i check YES????

And in Question 15 it asks what your Military Specialty was... My husband is Leary of me putting his specialty..

So what did everyone else do??? I dont want to be Un truthful... But at the same time.. I dont want my husband to be pegged for the next ..... (you know what):help:

and another thing... I guess they dont fill out the DS-230 form anymore??? the new updated egyptian embassy had all these new forms??? DS 156, DS 156k, and the DS- 157 ???

anyone else do these forms???

Yes, you have to put what his specality was in the military. Don't worry....my husbands military experience was pretty wild so tell your husband not to worry. Besides, I'm sure the embassy has their way of finding out the truth anyway. Also, I just asked my husband and he said if the son is the only son in the family, he does not have to go into the military.

I believe they have to REGISTER for military service, but if the military already has their quota, then they don't have to serve. Sorry I can't help with your other questions, I'm not that far into this process yet. (F)

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I just looked over our DS-157. On question 14 we checked "no" although he was specialized in an area and typed a little paragraph in the space on #15 with what his rank/position and specialty was along with all the dates.

I have my husband sitting here behind me. :innocent: He says you do not have to register if you are the only son, but you do have to PROVE that you are the only son.

well I guess i will redo his paper and Add his specialty.. But then I would feel stupid not checking off YES to question 14.. Cause how could I say he Does NOT have specialized training with firearms if he was in the Army??!!

I am gonna mail this off to him tomorrow.. I just wish I had other peoples input as to what they put.. :(

This is a very good question. My fiance also served in the military for 2 years, so does he have to put YES for firearms training?

I just think it looks really bad, 'single Muslim man with firearms/explosive training'.

But, I guess truthful is the only way to go....

Hopefully an enlightened person will reply- I am really hesitant to answer yes to this one... I mean actually, we could argue that there was not specific focused training in this area, but very brief training... ugghh..

I can't wait for all of this to be over!

Quick question- are you filling out the form for him? I am doing that for Omer, but get nervous when it asks "who helped you fill out this form?"

Just state the truth. If you feel uncomfortable, attach an explanation. All Egyptian males, unless they are the only son, are required to serve in the military and the Embassy is quite familiar with this and this will not count against. It would, however, not look so good if you attempted to hedge the truth.
