Ive always stood for the anthem because I believe in the promise of America, what the flag is supposed to symbolize even though America often falls short of what its supposed to symbolize. I mean, my dad served in the Army, dealt with discrimination in the Army, came back from his service in World War II and was not afforded the same rights as a U.S. citizen after his service, so dont talk to me about sacrifice and the military. My mom was the valedictorian of her high school, couldnt go to college in Louisiana and other mainstream universities because they were segregated. They didnt want to hear about her grades. You cant go because youre black. Theres still (discriminatory) problems in housing, hiring, the justice system. These are real problems. People arent making this up and theyre trying to find ways to speak out about it. Youre not always going to agree with the method. But lets pay as much attention to the substance as we do to the symbol.

It seems his socks depicting a pig wearing a police hat aren't getting him any better press, either.

Freedom of expression doesn't always mean you will get the results you wanted.

But he has the freedom to do it. Just like shirts that say Trump that B####, Hillary for Prison, etc....

He has freedom of expression on his on dime. Not when he is in uniform being paid Millions to represent a team

There's a policy against sock? Did his socks interfere with him being able to practice? Like did the socks cause him an injury, were they too tight? Nope, no interference.

he's paid millions to play football. which is disgraceful by itself. since when does anyone care for fake displays of patriotism anyway?

He is the entertainment business.

As such it pays not to piss of your customers.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

American people should be proud he's displaying his freedom of protest and speech which our military fight so hard to provide, yes?

Aren't you a freedom of speech and protest kind of guy?

I am sure that if I wore confederate flag socks it would be all honky dory, Right ? I mean everyone has a right to express themselves

I just took it for granted that you already had confederate flag socks.

I see people wearing confed garb every day, it works for them. Nascar doesn't seem to have too much of a problem in that regard.

The way I see it is this. He has every right to say what he feels, as it is his belief and there is no law prohibiting him from doing so. You have the right not to like it, and like minded individuals also have the right to not like it. They can use their free speech to not attend games if it bothers them that much. If endorsements pull out if it bothers them they can do that too. If his bosses decide to punish him, I suppose they could do that if it's in his contract, but I doubt they'd want to fight on that. In that regard, we can let the pressure of free markets duke it out eh? The way I see it, this is a private football team, entertainment industry, and it is not bound to the realm of a state or government sponsored team - therefore there is no persuasive clause to curtail his speech. Curtailing speech is a slippery slope.

Do we need safe spaces at football games now? ;)
