21. That year in the Army reserves counts.

I have no regrets. Do I wish I could have gotten further? Of course. Switching services and starting from the bottom in BOTH services will do that to you. But, allow me to express myself clearly.

I've done nothing but spoken highly of the Armed Forces. I've stomped for them even in my retirement. I've gotten more than a few friends in and they've done nothing but thank me. I also speak to kids who are in dead end jobs and let them know about the benefits(college, housing, decent pay) and have sponsored a few to the Air Force and the Navy.

It's not that I don't love my country, it's more of the lack of love I see from this country towards people of color.

In the Army? I could see it. Navy and Air Force is a tad bid different.

Nobody doubts you are a good soul with a big heart who would like to see the world be a better place. You are a super nice guy also. ( Your wife is very cute also)

However I think all we are trying to get you to see, is the world you see through your eyes is either white or black and everything that does not go your way is the direct result of the fact America hates black people. Most of the white people I know are not Racist and would love nothing more than to see an America, that thinks nothing more when they see a black person than the would when they see a person with different color hair. The more we wish black people to assimilate into society, the more they separate themselves, define everything by color of skin.

A cop kills a lawless punk and they burn down a city. What we should be learning is Fathers teaching Kids, son this is what happens when you lead that lifestyle, drop out of school, have no respect for anyone or anything around you.

I was at the local Sams club yesterday. They have a black manager and there are no longer white people working there. My cashier, a young black man with some crazy hair do, sagging pants, never said a word to me as he checked me out. Never acknowledged I was a customer, glared at me the whole time. Then looked at me and said, I kid you not. Move that buggy closer to me so I can put your stuff in it. He could have leaned 6 inches and got it. I moved it a little closer. He glared at me again, reached his hand out and looked at me again because it was 4 inches from his finger tips and did not want to lean.

My point. It does not matter what your skin color is, if you are not being taught basic social skills or being told that our relationship is customer/cashier and you should be polite and offer some customer service skills, then someone is doing him a disservice. I got attitude because I was an older white man. Now when that store starts failing or the kid gets fired for his absurd attitude, people like you will blame it on white racism instead of the real culprit , which is black apathy.

So, are you admitting that WP is real? Or are you posting this because you can't stand Hillary?

He apparently only heard what he wanted to hear, again, since Mr. Kapernic called out Rump for being "openly racist."

I got attitude because I was an older white man. Now when that store starts failing or the kid gets fired for his absurd attitude, people like you will blame it on white racism instead of the real culprit , which is black apathy.

I'll start from the top.

When this country has multiple PD that has reports clearly saying there's racist bias against POC, that's an issue. When you have black people killed under shady circumstances, BLM is formed, but then laws are passed to protect the very people that are being protested against, I'm not sure how that can't be racism. How many videos do we need to see of police officers killing black people and somehow the body cams are "malfunctioning", or in some cases, turned off? What about the PD where they high five each other when they kill a black teen and say he was armed with a gun but come to find out he's not? Or when they say they felt threatened but get caught red handed planting evidence? If this country cared, white people would be madder that the cops have been doing this for decades since you love the police. But even with video, what's the response? I want to see what they were doing B4 the video. Oh nothing? How about yesterday? How about last year? A parking ticket? Back child support? Selling CD's in a parking lot? Bingo! Only black people have their entire history combed to prove we're the authors of our own demise after the fact. I mean, if this country loved its black citizens, why are you so hesitant to come to black people's defense? I've heard here more than once, let's wait until everything comes out (which is code for, I want to wait and see if they have a record before I can lend sympathy). Even Charles Kingsley should have had you guys at the point of rage, but here? It was but a whimper. Why? Because even though he was the PERFECT victim, condemnation was very slow to come for the cops who shot him. In fact, it was written off as an accident. If you're mad that black folks are tearing down a city for a "thug", why aren't white people protesting when a law abiding citizen is shot by the cops? Especially when cops, by white people as a whole, are held to a much higher standard for conduct? But this doesn't apply to POC who are brutalized/killed by the police.

As far as assimilation of black folks into white society, once again dead wrong. If this were true; rap, hip hop, and the so called thug culture wouldn't exist in it's present state because we all know that it's not black people in charge of the radio and TV stations. Only black people are allowed to make songs about killing each other, failing school, doing drugs, and abusing our women. And what's worse? White people are tripping over each other to buy the CD's, emulate the newest style, and talk in the newest slang. Straight Outta Compton was the #1 movie in America, I remember you saw it. Just like that white lady next to me at the store talking about how "awesome" the movie was. J and I didn't even have to discuss it, we knew it would do good. Because that's how this country loves to see black people embrace the very stereotype they can't stand, as long as it entertains them. I blame us for doing such a self destructive thing, but I also blame white media for allowing it in the first place. We have restriction in place for TV and movies, the same should be used for black music. I can't make a song called Crackers in Kentucky, but I'll bet dollars to donuts n***** in Paris will do quite lovely on the charts.

If black apathy got you feeling a certain kind of way, look at the state of black people in this country. Got a black President that was forced to "show his papers", which means even when you get appointed to the highest office in the land, you're still black. Tim Scott spoke out about police profiling as a member of Congress. Which is funny since your friend ROY made it a point to say that racism is real and exists. But it seems like only to the smallest extent. In fact, I've never even seen any real outrage when something is flat out racist here. Dylann Roof was as bad as they get, but as I recall, the conversation went from him to the black crime rate real quick. That's how much this country dislikes black people, even when a white person kills someone, we have to talk about black on black crime, which is funny, you never hear the phrase “White on White Crime.” A gorilla was killed in defense of a black baby, and folks were dragging the parents.

In order for it to be racism, you need the KKK Grand Dragon riding a horse in full robe and hood dragging a black newborn down the road, and that's only if that baby comes from a two parent home, no parking tickets, PhDs, no previous marriages or out of wedlock children, no cousins with criminal records, and made A+s on all test from kindergarten and above.

1) Maybe I have led a sheltered life, but I have never known anyone, of any race, who got shot by the police. I know a lot who got arrested, but none shot. (I do know a guy who shot himself in the foot, literally, but that's a story for another day).

2) I try not to make comments about blacks in general. I'm sure it happens at times, but to say "all blacks this" or "all whites that" or "all Hispanics whatever"... That's pretty much always wrong to do. The only thing I tend to target YOU on is the same thing that several others here do, your demeanor of "poor oppressed me because I'm black". I know you had it good in your military service. Maybe not so much growing up in ESL, cuz I've been there, and that's a rough place. But I suspect if you were 100% honest, you'd say that there was more bad stuff likely to happen to you by your fellow blacks than whites or cops in that area.

3) I have been here quite a while, and I have never seen anyone call YOU those things. I'm sure you have links, and I would really like to read them, because I happen to think you are a stand-up guy, and don't deserve any of those names. I know I am one of two (cough NB cough) who probably give you the hardest time when it comes to talking about WP and blacks, but I have seen neither of us call you any names. Ever.

4) My post in the Wilder thread was a ridiculous comment. Meant to match the ones YOU (and a couple others here) make about WP. I am sure it's simply the point of perspective; on your side, you see WP as a real thing. On my side, I don't. I see rich privelege, I see Clinton Privelege, I see illegal immigrant privelege. And some others I cannot think of right now. But WP? No. And for the record, I actually thought Gene Wilder was a great actor. And I thought Blazing Saddles was overall funny, minus their use of the "N" word. Different day & time, I get it, but I was raised to never say that word, and it still bugs me today.

5) Detailed Letter Of Explanation?

Marvin, I suspect in person, you'd be a great friend. We'd butt heads over the whole WP thing, but I think what you need is more white friends who see you as you really are. Another person trying to have a good life, and who may not have had it as easy as many have. You have already put yourself head and shoulders above the majority of the US population by serving your country. Yeah, it kinda upset me when you said what you did about your feelings after the military; I am glad I am out, but I am still proud of my service, as well as my country, and I feel everyone who lives here should be. I know that's a pipe dream, cuz some hate it here, but it would be nice. I'm sorry that your feelings over how blacks are treated has been allowed to taint your feelings towards the flag and country overall. If I could, I would snap my fingers and change it all today, just for you. I mean that with all my heart. I may not know what it's like to be you, because I have never walked a mile in your shoes, but I DO know what it's like to be mistreated and beaten down and feel hatred towards myself from a large group. It's slightly less fun than a barium enema.

I apologize if what I said last night hurt you. I sincerely respect you for your service to your country, even if you didn't make E5 in 2 years. ;) (Also, I asked some buddies about their progress, only two answered thus far. One made it in 3.5 years, another in 5 years. The one in 5 years was NOT a go-getter by any means. So perhaps 2 years was to far on the left side, I admit it. And I know that it's probably not possible in the AF. Unsure about the Navy. So now we have identified ANOTHER thing for us to debate about... AP, or Army Privelege) BG

Also, tell M I said congrats on changing her name.

1) As far as I know, there isn't an active charter here. Most black people are associated with the military, and since we don't get shot here by the cops, I'd almost recommend living here if it wasn't so expensive.

2) You comments about black people in general is what made me ask. But I'll address this in the next post below.

3) Actually I don't. I make it a point to be clear and concise when I post. But drop the pretense. I've seen way too many posts that challenge my IQ, call me an animal, thugs, living in the "hood", and just all around black people suck here. My wife isn't here because of the blatantly racist things that have been said to her and myself.

4) Your post in the Wilder thread about WP points this out. Or the looting comments. Or the target practice for BLM. That's where the issue lies. And you can't use your life experience to dictate how life treats me or any other person.

5) I have no issues expressing myself. My issues lies in the DLOE for black people that's expressed here very clearly.

1). Not sheltered, different. Police brutality kind of comes with the package of being black. Are there some who haven't experienced it? I'd wager yes, but that's not the majority rule. Because I have plenty of friends, co-workers, and family members who've been through it. Some get off with just some harassment, others aren't so lucky. Do some light reading about it. Many black people, even ones who have done good in their lives, have gone through it. And it pisses us off when we know that even complying and being non threatening isn't enough in some cases. I know for a fact my military ID card has saved my butt more times than I can count. I've been pulled over and you can see almost a wave of relief when they see it.

2. I'm from STL, but lived close to ESL when stationed at Scott. But generalizations tend to suck either way. But that doesn't stop people from making them about black people and Muslims here. In fact, the only time they're called out is when you make one about white people, go figure. I've had run ins with both sides of it. But ESL is mostly black people, and the few whites that work/live there used to treat me pretty cautious, but giving the working/living conditions of the city, I can't really blame them, it's a cesspool. It's funny when they ask if I'm military. Like a clean cut black man is a rarity in that part of town so that has to be it.

3.Usually, they get removed. But I've been called a baby killer, acid thrower, cop killer, me and mine are destroying America, etc. I kind of miss being a Muslim. I actually had a stalker or two that would come here under different names just to come for me. One of the members(she's still here but doesn't post much anymore) wrote me a PM and was actually worried about my safety. Janelle (way before we were dating) was the one who convinced me to stay. She said don't let the racists scare you away, I need to stick around.

4.That's because you think WP is something that just gets you things because you're white. That's not it. It can be summed up in two statements. Benefit of the doubt and individuality. The first is because no matter what, you'll be given a chance to explain things or the assumption is there automatically. It's a privilege to go into the bank and cash a check without being locked up by the police because instead of checking first, they call the cops first. A privilege to catch a cab no matter how late it is and how drunk you and your friends might be. I still have issues with cabs and I'm as clean cut as I can be. You don't need your military service to speak for you, I have to wear mine like a uniform(pun intended) just to get treated the way you do without it. That's why I still work out in my Navy PT's to this day. Not because I like the blue and gold, but to give people a sense of mind when they see me running around. I've seen black kids locked up for waiting at a bus stop going to school, black boys taken to the station for buying a belt, even with receipts and all, there's this idea that we're inherently guilty by some measure, they just need to find out what it is.

And no matter what crimes are committed by white people, nothing sticks to you as a person. You could walk into a gun store and buy enough weaponry to level the city, they'd throw in a discount. Me? I've gotten wayward looks for just looking at getting a handgun in IL for home protection. Like the store clerk didn't want to show me a gun until I showed my military ID. That's where we're coming from. There was an article from Henry Rollings that summed it up perfectly:

I learned another lesson many years later, in 1991. I was on the first Lollapalooza tour. It was one of the best summers of my life. I spent a lot of time hanging out with Ice-T. We talked almost every day. He is one of the most articulate and intelligent people I have ever met. I wish I had a teaspoon of what he’s got. I also spent time with his bandmates and crew.

On days off, or when our buses would pull into the same place, we would eat together. All his guys wore gold. I have no idea what a necklace is worth, but it all looked expensive to me. When we went into places, white patrons and staff tripped on these guys. This is when I understood one of the reasons for the visible display of wealth. My whiteness assured them that I could pay for my meal. Ice-T and his guys had to demonstrate their ability to pay by literally wearing a show of wealth.

I’m an educated, Caucasian, heterosexual male. Does this ensure I will have success and live the American Dream? Obviously it doesn’t, but it damn sure drops me on second base with a great opportunity to steal third.

Until I read this, I could never understand why black folks would wear such gaudy items such as chains or watches. But I understand that most white people feel like they've earned everything, which is true, for the most part. What they don't see is how we have to earn it, and then some, because it's viewed as we can't possible be on the same level. And Gene Wilder was a great actor. I'm a Mel Brooks fan so I'm feeling the loss. And we don't say the N-word, ever in our house. There's a lot of ignorance within our race, you guys aren't as bad as when we try to argue with black people about black issues.

5. Distinct Lack of Empathy. Here's the thing. I'm not ashamed of my service. Like I said, I speak fondly of it and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to serve. My daughters are going to do Navy and Air Force. Already got them training and doing AP classes so they can be better than me and become officers. I did two branches of service, and what I don't tell most folks is that I had to make the climb to E-5 twice because I was brought in the Navy as an E-1. So if I stayed in either one or the other I would have made E7 or above, maybe. Problem was when I came in Navy, I was an E-1 with 7 years in. By the time I made 2nd class 5 years later, I was already under the gun for HYT. Instead of bitching about it, I just say I served and was able to retire, which I'm fine with. They grandfathered me in so even if I made E-6, I would have to get out in 20 years because of the HYT drop(E6 is now 20, E5 is 14). I'm one of the lucky ones, I've seen those 2nd class men and women in locked rates that had to go after 14 years. And I have no issues with white people. I treat those the way they treat me, but the issue isn't white people, it's the entire system and how it views us. It's not that I don't love America, it's more of how America doesn't love black people the same as any other race. Dwayne Wayne sums this up better than I can ever write:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVERwH02aCs

I have friends from all walks of life. Even from different countries. I don't discriminate. But, when it comes to racial issues, I know even if you're well meaning, most(I see you Val, Rob, even Teddy has admitted he can't see it like I do, but he understands) white people don't get it not because they're racist, but because it's something that's alien to them. Me and J's conversations at home are like VJ in real life. We can talk for hours about it, and we both complete each other in that regard.

Give you a good example. We had the EEO rep come and do a survey about command climate. And we did some exercises about equal opportunity. The rep is an E8 in the Air Force. Black guy. We have an O3 white guy who kind of got testy with him in regards to the boot strap theory. He said, we can all make it if we just work hard. I said, word for word, in a perfect world, this is correct, but there are things in play that make it a wee bit harder for some people. That E8 looked me right in my eyes and nodded. The conversation got a bit edgy after that. Afterwards he came to me and said it took guts to say that out loud. I asked if I was wrong in my assessment. He said no, but it's hard to talk about it when folks don't know where you're coming from.

Apology accepted. All I ask is if the context is about black people, have a degree of empathy. We have our dirt bags just like everyone else, but sometimes that's all that's needed.

And if you want, you should send her a request on FB. I know y'all want to be our friends, but are trying to separate FB from VJ. We already talk to some other members there, what happens there stays there.

"I'll stab you next time I see you, NB!"

You KNOW that's what he was about to say! :D

White folks stab. Black folks cut. Please do better :ranting:

I've seen way too many posts that challenge my IQ, call me an animal, thugs, living in the "hood", and just all around black people suck here. My wife isn't here because of the blatantly racist things that have been said to her and myself.

Your post in the Wilder thread about WP points this out. Or the looting comments. Or the target practice for BLM. That's where the issue lies. And you can't use your life experience to dictate how life treats me or any other person.

I have no issues expressing myself. My issues lies in the DLOE for black people that's expressed here very clearly.

aint nobody ever called you names. You just making stuff up now. Other than your extreme racist views you are one of the nicest guys here

dude, you know me. I don't lie, especially about that. I can't name drop, but I'll tell you that what I've said is 100% true. That baby killing acid throwing remark comes from a thread about Muslims. If I remember correctly, I was being grilled about verses in the quran and the bible. Homosexuality was the topic.

One member was so ignorant danno asked did I sleep with the guy's wife in real life. And you know how he was...

I just cannot comment on the rest right now. Hope you understand. But doggone it if you didn't catch me. I meant to say CUT, not stab. NB knew what I meant, even if you try to make me sound illiterate.

Suffice it to say... I love you Marv, as much as one heterosexual male can love another. I think you are one hell of a guy. Even if you don't like collard greens.

White folks stab. Black folks cut. Please do better :ranting:

That's my side boy right there

I almost was a side boy, in my own retirement. Once I cried racism, that got fixed real quick
