I responded once to said "calling out" (ridiculous though it was), but someone rattled on me and got me banned from the thread.

What does a member of blm do in Hawaii, exactly? Haven't seen many protests over there lately?

I'm a member of BLM, and I remember you being called out in this thread and not posting this response.

So you are not proud of the country that you served and have lived in all your life, the very one who provided you opportunities to excel. Now that you are getting a paycheck every month, you can bad mouth as much as you want, eh? Noted.

Might also shed some light on why it took you 20+ years to attain and retire at the grade that most achieve in 2 years or less.

I'm proud of serving this country. But on other things, I do have a say.

But your insult betrays your ignorance. Instead of doing the same, allow me to educate you on your stupidity.

Time in grade for E-1 to E-2 is 9 months. E-2 to E-3 is 9 months. E-3 to E-4 is 6 months. Now, math might not be your jam, so I'll break it down for you. 9+9= 18. 18+6= 24. 24 months is 12 x 2. There are 12 months in a year, so 24 month is 2 years.

Now, from E-4 to E-5 is at the fastest one year wait, if you gotten an Early promote on your evaluation. If you didn't, then you have to wait 2 years. So, starting from E1, unless you got a merit promotion outside of A school to 3rd class is at least 4-5 years, not even counting if your rate is overmanned and PTS requirements.

But if my rank is an issue for you, why don't you post your picture of when you served and obtained a higher position.

Maybe you should work on your delivery. When you get personal and start slinging insults, that tends to happen.

And before you ask for my credentials, you should provide that receipt from your "donation" to LA. To keep the playing field even.

Word up. Yes Roy did you serve . Lol

Not a wise challenge Marvin.

I know Roy. Modest humble type so I will do it for him.

He shouldn't have brought it up as an insult NB. And that's worse. Because he should have known you can't go from E-1 to E-5 in two years, no matter how high speed you are.

It wasn't an insult, more of a way of pointing out maybe that's why you are disgruntled at your country. Took me from July of one year until December of the next to make E5. But I did have a head start, having come in as an E3. But still, I know many who made E5 in 12-18 months. Even know a few who made E7 in 9 years. Also, with an RCP, one had to be careful about making grades in a timely manner. Of course, switching services can help that you.

Yeah, I served also. But unlike you, I am STILL proud of my country, though I see it changing in ways that are not what I would like to see. Let someone burn a flag in front of me, or sit during the national anthem, and they will find out just how much my service and my country means to me. I lost way too many friends to allow somoene to trample on their memories and sacrifice in that way. I don't care WHAT the motivation behind the disrespectful act is.

I wasn't asking to see your membership card. I was asking what the blm in Hawaii is doing. You said yourself it is not a place where racism is rampant. And I have heard nothing on the news about blm in Hawaii (though truth be told I get most of my "news" from CEHST or FB, so I may well have missed happenings there).

BTW, I also donated some beehives to a wildlife sanctuary, and gave away many, many jars of honey. Some even to (GASP!!) my black neighbors. Don't ask for a receipt for those, either, cuz I don't have one. When I give, it's a gift, not a tax write off.

Thanks for the kind words, Rick, but not needed. You make me sound like someone special, which I certainly am not. Just one of the lucky few who got in and got out mostly intact.

I can handle Marvin on his own terms. I think he means well, just has a hard time expressing himself at times. We all are a product of our upbringing, and of our experiences in life. But sometimes, our experiences reflect how we ourselves act and behave. Not everything bad that has happened in my life was because life was unfair to me. Most times, I brought it on myself. That is what I was trying to say.

When exactly did I ever say I wasn't proud of my service? Because as far as I'm concerned, it's one of the highlights up there with having kids and finding my soul mate. Since you're a retired member, you knew what you said was an insult, be a man about and own it. And you'd also know that with RCP (HYT in the Navy) I couldn't have done over 20 without a valid reason. Especially when they changed the rule from 20 years to 14 years in 2006 when I was still active. And if starting from E1 you can't be an E5 in 18 months UNLESS you're talking about a merit promotion, CAP, or in a rate that gives you 3rd or 2nd class right out of A school, and those take 24 months, still at least. So your anyone can make it comment in 2 years was just that, an insult.

As far your second comment, that's you prerogative. That's the beauty of being here, we have choices. And it's his choice to speak his mind, just like it's mine to speak what I think or feel. If you don't care, then don't comment, or better yet, go find him and let him know exactly how you feel about it.

As far as I know, there isn't an active charter here. Most black people are associated with the military, and since we don't get shot here by the cops, I'd almost recommend living here if it wasn't so expensive.

You comments about black people in general is what made me ask. But I'll address this in the next post below.

Thanks for the kind words, Rick, but not needed. I can handle Marvin on his own terms.

But sometimes, our experiences reflect how we ourselves act and behave. Not everything bad that has happened in my life was because life was unfair to me. Most times, I brought it on myself. That is what I was trying to say.

Actually I don't. I make it a point to be clear and concise when I post. But drop the pretense. I've seen way too many posts that challenge my IQ, call me an animal, thugs, living in the "hood", and just all around black people suck here. My wife isn't here because of the blatantly racist things that have been said to her and myself.

Your post in the Wilder thread about WP points this out. Or the looting comments. Or the target practice for BLM. That's where the issue lies. And you can't use your life experience to dictate how life treats me or any other person.

I have no issues expressing myself. My issues lies in the DLOE for black people that's expressed here very clearly.

Marvin all I would say is you served honorably for 20 years and thank you for your service.

P.S. I made E-5 in 2.5 . It can be done. Not saying its normal. I think 4 is more the norm

21. That year in the Army reserves counts.

I have no regrets. Do I wish I could have gotten further? Of course. Switching services and starting from the bottom in BOTH services will do that to you. But, allow me to express myself clearly.

I've done nothing but spoken highly of the Armed Forces. I've stomped for them even in my retirement. I've gotten more than a few friends in and they've done nothing but thank me. I also speak to kids who are in dead end jobs and let them know about the benefits(college, housing, decent pay) and have sponsored a few to the Air Force and the Navy.

It's not that I don't love my country, it's more of the lack of love I see from this country towards people of color.

In the Army? I could see it. Navy and Air Force is a tad bid different.

Meh, who really cares about army ranks anyways. I did 3 years and was released a staff sergeant(the equivalent of E-6) but they literally chased me to become an officer, but I refused. So needless to say, when it came to coming across other officers or people with higher ranks etc, I didn't consider them anything special or better than me knowing I could easily be there had I wanted to.

As far as the OP - it's his right legally to do what he wants, however crappy and disrespectful it is.
