hello. i need advice. does anybody here experience step dad adopt spouse child, with no paternal info on the child's birth cert? paternal side on BC is unknown. me and my husband wants to do it on our own to lessen the cost of the adoption. is it possible? i need info. please. we are located here in texas. i look forward to hear from anybody who could help. thank you.

Regardless of it not stating the child's father on the birth certificate, he clearly still exists and has parental rights that must be terminated before the child can be adopted by someone else.

The father needs to either voluntarily agree to terminate his parental rights, or you need to convince the judge that it is in the child's best interests that this takes place.

At the very least you should consult with a family lawyer experienced in such matters.

Approximately $1,600, including attorney's fees and court fees. I was quoted around $2,000 by a couple of other attorneys, so I wound up paying a little less than I expected.
