Hi everyone!

I got married last week, I'm filing for my adjustment of status.

My question is: how many marriage certificates do I need to send?

I'm not changing my name.

Some people say 3 (1 for i485, 1 for advance parole and 1 for EAD) some people say originals and not copies. Can you explain for me? Thank you!! ;)

Only send photocopies. Do not send originals.

Please follow the guide. :)

We ordered 5 certified copies, blew right through them and ordered 5 more. It is amazing how many times they come in handy during this long process! Good luck!

You don't need all these certified copies. You just need photocopies! Why waste money on something you don't need?

I guess it really depends on who is asking. We have been asked for certified copies along the way (i.e., Report of Marriage, at the bank for a mortgage refinance, etc.), so I have been happy to have certified copies handy. Now, in some cases, the recipient would the go and make a photocopy and return the certified copy to us (which was rather annoying), but they asked for the certified copy upfront. At this point I just don't think the cost is so great (in relation to the overall costs involved in this complete process) and I'd rather be safe than sorry. Of course YMMV!

Only need a photocopy of the marriage certificate you receive from the court once your marriage is registered. Only the I-485 instructions ask for a copy. The other 2 forms for EAD and AP do not.

All they need is a photocopy but they need to see the original. That's why they take the photocopy of it.
