A little rundown of our interview at the US Embassy in Manila on 25 Aug 2016.

I was making retirement plans for living in the Philippines years before I even met my new wife; (meeting my new wife is making my retirement just that much better). But I knew I needed to maintain some sort of connection with the USA to keep my residency and citizenship current. My plan was to keep my drivers license current along with my US mailing address and bank accounts. It was a good thing I did all that.

The I-864 has a few questions about maintaining your domicile and fortunately I brought proof of that to our interview. One of the final questions we had during our interview at the Embassy was “Why was I returning to the US since I had been gone so long?” Well I told him the reason and the interviewer then explained the rules of domicile to me and asked for proof. Well I was prepared for this and brought everything that was needed.

My point is to make sure you read and clearly understand EVERYTHING and PREPARE for that interview, even to the tiniest detail. It isn’t just about the NEW potential resident applicant, but may also include questions regarding the BOTH of you.

All in all, it was a great day and we were APPROVED without any problems.
