Order a new Passport, you will need one that is valid at least 9 months from the date visa is issued.

Here, in my country it takes between 20 minutes and 5 days(depending on how busy the clerks are) to issue a new one and get it delivered.

I hope Nigerian beaurocracy is not worse than so that they'll be to pull it together and deliver to you in 7 weeks.

If your nigerian passport has not run the full 10 years then you need to apply for an extension at the Nigerian Embassy in DC or NY. But if it hasn't then u just need to apply for a new passport which I believe shouldn't take that long to obtain, see their websites for more details...Be quick though!

DITTO above. RUN to your Consulate/Embassy and get a new passport. It IS a big deal and you are running the chances of either having our IV revoked or something nastier (i.e. deportation). Just my .2 cents.

It is not required that you have a valid passport for the AOS interview.

I'm backing meauxa here. A lot of wrong infomation in this thread. It is not required that you have a valid passport at your AOS interview. If you don't have a valid passport, the only impact is that you will not get a I-551 stamp in your passport if you are approved. These are getting rarer these days anyway.

By all means, get a new passport, but you're fine with the old one.

Not only what you said, but, if they WERE giving a stamp, and the passport were expired, the officer would simply put it on an I-94. There are several posts discussing that at BE too, but the motivated party can find them.

Interesting, I've never heard of that happening I'll admit.
