I agree. I do not give regularly, though. I give when I feel like it. Maybe 3 times in the last five years. Could be four but I'm not positive.

I worked for the annual fund call center when I was in college. One of the things they told was that the percentage of alumni who have given every year since graduation is an important statistic for a university as it increases other sorts of donations, presumably from corporations. Could very well be that's just something they told us in order to get people to donate. But I've donated every year anyway, even if it's just been $25.

The company I work for now will supposedly match my gifts, but for some reason it's been an administrative nightmare to get the appropriate forms.

They make enough money as it is, without my help! I need my money a heck of a lot more than they do........(They always try ot get some from me though, by sending me unsolicited mail. )

Besides....their football team sucks.

I suppose that depends on what your alma mater is. Some do better, fiscally speaking, than others.

I haven't donated recently, but I did to buy-in for football tickets. I expect I'll donate more once I'm out of grad school & have paid off my loans. It's hard to stomach donating when you're still carrying all of the loans.

I decided after donating a few times that they have more sources for money than I do . . . and usually those are some of the wealthiest ppl in the city/state . . . so they don't need my piddly little contribution.

I'd rather donate to other causes . . .

I think last year I gave $75. I did the same thing as Jenn...did fund raising while there so I know that percentage number is important.

I do - albeit small amounts. In return my university sends me birthday cards Seriously, they do!

No! They ask for money every year but they own estates, stocks, immensely valuable artwork and have a room full of gold (which we were allowed to view once a year) from over 600 years of endowments. I believe that those endowments were made in order to provide for education, housing etc of future members of college so let them spend some of it!

No, as U of C's alumni assoc sent me way too many requests between 1984 and 1989. Also, I don't want to financially support an institution which (on funding matters) views itself vis-a-vis another (in U of C's case, U of A from which it split in 1966--the parent institution is in the provincial capital Edmonton).
