Thanks again everyone for the responses. Apparently I am unable to book an appointment online during the date that I want. All of the spaces are gray. As of right now the only available date is August 31st. So perhaps it would be easier if I called. Yes this is going to be a civil ceremony. Is the marriage seminar in between getting the legal capacity cert and receiving the marriage license?

Appointments are requested but not required to help spread the workload out. As a USC you won't be turned away from the USEM. Just explain to the 'gatekeeper' you need consular services. You should be able to talk your way in without much trouble. I had a 10:30 slot, walked in at 9, and got to the first window by 9:20. Don't be timid and ask as many questions as you need to accomplish the task. Suggest not taking any electronics (cell, camera) as it will just delay your entrance, but not prevent it. Citizen services is on the 2nd floor, I believe. Ask. If you've been divorced you need to take divorce decree or tell them you never been married. Much easier that way as there is no data check.

Don't know if Cebu is in your path but its less congested and easier to navigate. Easiest to pay the fee (was US$50 couple of years ago) in US$. Have exact amount due. Again easier and faster.

You can take someone with you. They just have to wait in the tent outside. For nearby accommodations I used Blvd Mansion on Roxas 3 times. Less than 10 minute walk, reasonable rates, but not 5 star if that's what you're looking for.

Marriage seminar is required before the LCR will release the marriage license which allows you to have marriage ceremony after a 10 day cooling off period. I entered the seminar with a ####### attitude but found it worthwhile in the end and yet another introduction to the culture. and as a 'Kano you'll be a celebrity.. At least I was in SJDM, Bulacan, :).

Good luck.

Thats right! I hate cabs in manila. So better use uber. Uber is available in manila.

haha xD I didn't get to use uber because i was in Pasay (across MOA) and the area i was at did not have Uber service. But I wondered if Uber in Philippines is Cheaper or equal to America? Uber is so expensive here..

There's also a Jollibee close to there too.. it's in Houston.. It might not taste the same as philippines though haha

it's grayed out because you have to wait until it's closer to that date.. they open the dates the closer it gets to it.. that way everyone has a fair chance of getting an appointment

I got issues using taxi service in manila and i find uber more secure. Uber in Manila, Philippines is about the same rate with taxi service in the area. But uber in cebu is more expensive as compared to taking the taxi.

We will be in Manila during my 3 weeks. I am only 27 and have never been married so all of these steps should be pretty straight forward. As for the seminar and everything that comes with this whole wedding I am looking forward too. I dont ever plan on living in the Philippines but of course for me at least its important to learn as much about the culture. I am definitely way happier to have found a beautiful Filipina who I can learn so much from rather than the standard american chick. I just cant wait to get home after everything and start the process to get her here.

Is it possible to get a legal capacity cert here in the U.S. before I head to the PH?

I gave a link early on in this discussion that spells out each step that someone else took and he outlines how to begin the process from USA. He has the answer to your question. Take advantage of the advise.

I will be arriving in the Philippines on October 7th and will be leaving on the 28th. My Fiance and I are getting married on the 24th. I was wondering how long it would take to get the certificate of legal capacity? Is it something we can get the same say? Also it says the marriage license takes 10 days. I would assume that is 10 business days? I feel like we are really cutting close on time.

First congratulations on your wedding

yes you will get the Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage the same day. It states on the manila embassy website that an appointment is required. I do not know how strict they are on that. 21 days seems like a short time. but it can be done, that is how long I visit the Philippines when I got married to my wife In may 2014
