Hi there,

I know it's still a long time until I actually need the DS-230, but I do like to practice :P

I have some questions regarding filling out the DS-230 (part 1):

Question 10 "Permant address in the US you intend you live".. I will put my husband's address, but it's very likely we'll move pretty soon after entering the US. That's fine, right? I would file that one form to inform USCIS of the address change, right?

Question 11 "Address Green Card should be sent to".. Can I put my husband's parents' house? They won't move and their mail always gets there.

Question 13 "Telephone number".. Do I put the country code also?

Question 23 "All educational institutions".. Do I also list elementary school? If so, what do I put for "course of study" and "degree or diploma"? Both of these seem to only make sense for college, not elementary/middle school.

Question 25 "Previous Visits to the US".. It says to give type of visa and "DHS "A" Number, if any. I once stayed in the US as an exchange student with a J1 visa. What's DHS and the A-number in that context?

Also, for regular visits to the US I travel with the normal Visa Waiver Program. Do I just VWP then for "visa"?

Thank you all for your answers!

Oh, and btw, I remember that in some form you had to put "all places you have visited in the last 10 years".. What form was that again? I can't seem to find it.

Here's another question I have:

Since my husband will be my choice of agent, he will receive the DS-230 package by the NVC. But of course I will have to fill out the DS-230. So, can I use the downloaded form? And I have to send it back to him and not straight to the NVC since he's got the cover page with the barcode, right? (I think we're leaning to not using the shortcuts).. And then he will send it to the NVC? Is that correct?

Q10. Yes but you will have to let them know of your change of address within 10 days of moving.

Q11. Yes, but again, you will have to let them know of your change of address within 10 days of moving.

Q13. I didn't include the country code.

Q23. I didn't include elementary/middle schools and everything was fine.

Q25. Were you issued an 'A' (alien registration) number with the J-1. If so this is the number you put. For the visits on VWP put VWP as the type of visa.

Thank you, aussiewench. One more question about the A-number on my J1.. How would I find out if I was issued one? Would it say it on the visa? I can only see a "visa number"..

Someone else maybe able to confirm, but to my knowledge you would not necessarily have an 'A' number. Did you have work authorization?

Yes, the agent will receive the DS-230 package from NVC. Yes, you can download the DS-230, complete it, sign it (only part 1 should be signed), then mail it off to your spouse in the US who will then put the barcode sheet received from NVC with it and mail the complete package including any documentation required, to NVC.

The documents etc needed to be submitted with the DS-230 are dependant on the country......see below links

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa)

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (NOT applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa)

Let me know it the links dont work.
