Hello everyone,

I'm curious how long it took for your fiancee to get the Police Clearance Certificate.

We placed the order on Aug 8th.

They told us 30 business days and to expect it around September 21st!!

But I want to see how long was the normal.

Also please indicate if you paid the "Extra fee" for express service.

We did not pay the express fee (but they did offer this service).

Thanks in advance!

Nathan

The "extra fee" is no longer an option. The government has cracked down on that. There are even signs up around the police station admonishing people not to give in to corruption.

The "express service" they're offering now I think may have to do with postal special delivery as opposed to regular mail. Unless it's changed drastically in the past five months, bribes are no longer accepted.

Takes five or six weeks. My wife did not have hers at the interview. They said she could submit it later.

We ordered Police Certificate from Thailand with no extra fee option on July 8 and Laos Embassy had it for our interview Aug 3. There was no copy for us, very confusing for me as I expected a hard copy, but instead sent directly. Wifey just looks blankly like i should have known, said "no problem".

So we went in person yesterday for the Police Certificate.

They offered an "express service" for us to Pickup the certificate on Sept 9th rather than them mail it on Sept 21st.

The extra cost was 1,500 baht.

As this will save us an extra round trip flight from Hat Yai I agreed to pay the extra.

It seems as though it depends on who you see when you arrive if any extras are offered.....

Uh-huh. So things have gone back to normal. The government earlier abolished the bribe -- and that's all it is, a bribe -- but I guess they've moved on to other things, and it's back to normal now at the police. Did they also take down all those signs about not paying bribes that were all over the walls when we went in earlier this year?

What paperwork did you need for the Thai police clearance?

I got a list of items from the US website, but my wife got a longer list of items on a Thai site.

One of the items is "spouse's paperwork" - No idea what this is.

thanks.

Lynne took with her:

a copy of my passport with my signature at the bottom of the page (maybe that is the spouse's paperwork??)

the approved I-129

her house registration,

her passport

her ID card

her birth certificate

her single status certificate

and her name change certificate.

best of luck!

We went in April, when anti-corruption signs were all over the walls and no one offered a special service. Typical Thailand. Problem returns after a certain interval.

We went to to get the Police Clarence on Monday and we were also offered the "Express Service". Not only did they say she could pick it up in person in a few weeks, but at the time, the place was super busy. She had an officer walk her through the front of the lines for everything while everyone else waited in line. The whole affair there took about 20 minutes after we agreed to pay the "extra"

My wife went on Tuesday. Took no time at all and she paid 150b. I thought it was supposed to be free, but 150b is not really any big deal.

"she could pick it up in person in a few weeks" - I think that is the normal processing time. They gave my wife a date about 30 days from when she went in.

Update on Fiancé police clearance. We had gone to the Police station in BKK on the 10th for her clearance. We did pay the "express fee" of 1500 baht. She received her clearance on the 17th in the mail. She was told that she could pick it up on the 21st but they mailed it to her instead. That saved her a long trip back into BKK for it and we got it a few days earlier then expected. Overall, I guess if you need it fast, it might be a good thing to pay the extra. Good luck
