Timeline

As my fiancee and I were waiting in line for her interview, I observed part of an interview with a Filipino and his two daughters. Apparently he fathered his two daughters without spending any time at all living with their mother and now he was attempting to get a visa to take himself and his two daughters to the US to be with his USC woman. I don't know if it was a K visa or a Married visa. But the interviewer told him that he didn't believe the story of fathering two daughters with a woman with whom he never lived. His interview started 20 minutes before ours and he was still there when we got approved and left.

So if you have a very unique, hard to believe situation, be very prepared to fully explain the circumstances. And offer them before the interviewer says he doesn't believe you. Otherwise, it could take a very long time, and you could get rejected. Be honest and forthright, and if you have a situation like his, offer in advance an honest and plausible reason.

I felt sorry for his two daughters, who were both between the ages of 9 and 13. They had to hear the story and the interviewer's disbelief. Also, if you have difficulty with English, requesting a translator won't hurt you at all. Don't struggle with a foreign language while you're struggling to explain an unusual situation. He would've been better served with a translator, to be sure, as his English was fair to good, but not fluent. My fiancee didn't have such a difficult story to tell, and she used a Tagalog interpreter, and things went just fine.

You make some great points. The fiance has to be strong. Look the interviewer in the eye when answering and know your partner inside and out. Like you said, if your case has some unusually characteristics about it, spend time talking about it. Get your "story" right but most of all be truthful. Don't be afraid to ask for a interpreter. It will not count against you. Of course you also want to demonstrate that you understand English because how are the two of you going to communicate (that's what the CO is thinking).
