hi guys,

i'm a little confused on reading other cases. my fiancé is an ozzie and we are going to get a jump start on getting stuff organised like the police clearances and thats where i'm kinda bumfuzzled: what do i do to get the place check took care of? do i need just the finger prints or finger prints and australia federal police check? i'm sure this is a FAQ but i can't seem to find a straight answer. any advice?

also,

i need co sponsors for my situation. i'm living with him in australia but we are moving back as soon as his visa is approved. i'm unemployed at the moment so my parents are sponsoring him as well. I have sent them the I-864 forms for the both of them and I have filled out the I-134 form. do they need to fill out the same form? any help would be great. this is certainly the most difficult and tricky part of the visa but i'm getting there. just need to make sure i've got all my bases covered.

thanks a lot everyone.

I can't help much with the support forms as I haven't been through that part.
However as far as the police check goes... I did the national fingerprint check. Some say you need fingerprints and that they have been RFE'd at the interview stage until its done, others say they have gotten through without it. It's $139 to get the prints done and to save the stress or risk I just went ahead and did it.
You must do the fingerprint check offline. So you need to download the application form from the website.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and print this form, fill it out (it has a spot for a visa number if you want to pay by card, or you can attach a money order for the fees):
https://afpnationalpolicechecks.converga.com.au/static/images/afp/npc_offline_form.pdf

Go to your local/nearby police station and get them to do a NON CRIMINAL fingerprinting. You will get to take the sheet with the prints on it. My station had some confusion and thought I needed a specific form to put my prints onto, but I told them just to do it on the same sheets they use when they bring someone in off the street for an offence. He just crossed out the section about what crime I had committed and used the usual spots for my fingerprints.

Bundle the fingerprints AND your completed forms together and post them to:

Australian Federal Police
Criminal Records
Locked Bag 8550
Canberra City
ACT 2601

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They will email you when it's been processed and to let you know they've sent the certificate to you. It took about 30 days to receive my hard copy clearance certificate in the mail. That's what I will take to the interview.
I hope this helps. The actual National Police Checks website section is linked below, I just wanted to give the link for the offline form as it took a bit of hunting for me to find it initially.

For the police check you can get either the AFP Full Disclosure police check or a Fingerprint one. I only did the Full Disclosure and never had a problem and for half the price, and all online, received my Police certificate in the mail 7 days later. The link provided to you above has it all.

As for the I-864 form, I didn't need a sponsor, but on the off chance I did, from recollection, even though you are using joint sponsor, you have to still fill in I-864 as well, as you are still a sponsor as well. Someone else might chime in with more info on that. I don't know anything about the other form you mentioned, sorry.
