Ooof. It's supposed to be pretty detailed as I recall, but when we shipped our stuff I can't say it was, like, THAT detailed. I wish I had a copy of the paperwork still. I think we put like "Pots and pans" "Clothes" that sort of thing and how many boxes of each? You should get a form from your shipping company that'll give you an indication of how detailed to be and what they're expecting. I definitely don't recall writing any detailed descriptions.

Did a quick google - this is the company you're using? http://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/information/documentation/ They have some example docs in pdfs that might help.

I have been wondering this too.

Do we have to list every single item (e.g. 1 black t-shirt, 1 purple dress, 1 pair of black boots, etc) or is it enough to say "clothing". And the values? I have no idea how much my clothes are worth. Some of them I made myself. My husband has also made some of them. Other things are from vintage and secondhand stores or flea markets. Some things have been altered that would change the value (e.g buy a plain white t shirt for a few quid and then tie-dye it at home).

And new things - it says you must pay duty on things you've had for less than a year. I've bought some new work wear to take with me. Currently I work at home remotely so I wear what I want but my new job is in an office with a dress code. So will I have to declare these things?

Confused!!!!

From what I could tell when I did mine, you don't have to be seriously detailed.

For example I had boxes with lists like :

Clothes (shirts)

Shoes (cleaned)

Books

Soft toys

Glassware

That's all you need. The cleaned bit for the shoes is because one of the things they are strict with (or so I'm told) is foreign soil etc. So worth noting that they are clean shoes not muddy trainers or something. so no, you don't need to list every single thing. If I tried to list every item in my shipping separately they would have had five pages just of book titles!

Thank you for that! Good to know about the shoe cleaning thing. It was the same when we went to work in China and took all our stuff. They insisted that our shoes be cleaned beforehand. I'd quite forgotten about that till I saw your post.

Hi can i just say- i shipped 4 good size boxes on Thursday through transglobal express using ups( 64kg ) at cost of 145 pound and they arrived Today in Ohio- now thats quick. On the invoice listing i just put clothes, pictures, old paperwork, shoes, teddys, dolls, glass vase. and on the customs form didnt list anything as all were over a year old.

All 4 boxes arrived un tampered with nothing opened.

If you are packing any breakables OVER wrap them. I used baggage hub for my 4 boxes and they were completely trashed. Some of my stuff was broken even though I wrapped it and there were holes in the boxes. Fedex just dumped them on the door step. In regard to the original question, I was not overly detailed, however I was not offered insurance.
