Chantel's family is very uppityy, and rude. They have this picture of Pedro that he is using Chantel  for all her money, and using for her for a greencard. Now had Chantel been honest with her family from the beginning that Pedro was here on a K1 visa and not a student visa, most of the mess could be avoided. Dominicans are proud people, Chantel and her family were very insulting to Pedro and his family.

I agree that Chantel's family is very uppity, they think of themselves at this high class rich family.  But in reality, the dad is some kind of youth basketball coach and the mother teaches kids' cheerleading.  Not exactly doctor and lawyer.  Personally, I can't stand her family.  The brother is a complete weirdo too.  The sister seems normal from the little that she has actually spoken.

But my wife and I both watched the show and she agrees that serving them chicken parts (feet, neck) was a total sign of disrespect, especially when the mother admitted that "I don't eat that stuff".  Then why would you make it for (Non-Dominican) guests?  Even Pedro was very hesitant about eating one when they asked him to show how it's done.  Then refusing to come out of the van at the grandmother's house was comical.  They have no shame whatsoever.

As for Paola and her modeling, it was funny seeing the agent's face when she saw Paola walk in with Russ.  She realized that the gig is up.  After a few simple questions, it turned out that the reason Paola hasn't worked in the 2 months in Miami is because her pictures are not good enough.  Funny, she never mentioned it to Paola.  And also they didn't set up a profile for her in the model database.  I'm sure it was an oversight and not because it's a scam. Paola is so obssessed with modeling she wants to give her a second chance.  The agent accepts the challenge and says that she hopes Paola is ready to work because she'll be working daily for the next month once she does her new photo shoot.  Of course another expense for Russ.

A week after she got her greencard, Jorge and Anfisa are separated.  She kicked him out after beating on him again after the meeting with Jorge's sister where the sister basically called her a prostitute. Then Anfisa meets up with her new friend (the girl from the jewelry store where Jorge bought her ring).  This girl is almost as dumb as Anfisa.  Equally as shallow and stuck up.  And she says that Anfisa could do better than Jorge, that she needs an older guy who is mature and already has the wealth to treat her like she deserves.  What she deserves is to go back to Russia.

Loren and Alexi's mother go to an immigration lawyer to discuss the possibility of bringing his parents (and younger brother) over.  So for the paremts,. it's pretty easy since they would be immediate relative.  Lawyer says 6 months.  For the brother it's 13 years.  Somehow, later when she is telling Alexi what the lawyer said, she thinks it's 13 years to get a visa that would make him a USC.  These people don't know much about immigration.  So the plan to move his famly over is dead.

The fact that Pedro is sending all his money and some of Chantel's (no way he is making that much as a dishwasher) so his mother and "sister" (aka girlfriend/wife) can move on up to a 3 bedroom/2 bath US style apartment in the DR shows how dumb Chantel is to allow this.  All that while they are living in a 1 bedroom closet.  I would put my foot down and not allow that.  His family hit the GC jackpot. New laptop, 50" TV, hair straighteners, lotions, shampoos, makeup, clothes, etc.

His reason: his culture.  Is the Dominican culture a bunch of ungrateful freeloaders?  (First question they asked at the airport is where their new TV is)

I think the chicken feet and neck was Pedro's mother's way of saying F you to Chantel's family for making him seem like he is a bad person and made him sign the prenup. Her mother is such a b*tch, and the dad doesn't say to much, but that weirdo brother has lots of opinions on Chantel's life, which is odd. Ok, Chantel may not have known about all the money Pedro was sending back, but she was right there when he was unpacking the suitcase with all the gifts for his mom and sister, in fact she is the one who brought out the laptop. I wouldn't doubt she went shopping for those things.

Bolded is so funny!! Never thought of that, then again she and Pedro don't even look related.

Pedro did say he bought Chantel a car, and now is making payments on her $3,500 diamond ring, yeah how is he doing that on a dishwashers salary?

I'm sure there are plenty of ungrateful freeloaders in the DR,  i've never been given a "list" of things i need to bring to the DR, if that would happen they would be in for a surprise. Then again this is for TV, so maybe they are making it more over the top?

When they hugged at the airport, she was overly ecstatic to see him.  Ok, it's possible that she's his sister.  But he grabbed her butt and quickly moved his hand up.  If you have it DVR'd take a look.  My wife says "incidental contact" but I think it's more than that.

Oh, she knew about the gifts, but didn't realize how much his family was taking advantage of her until her family pointed it out sitting/hiding in the van.  That's when the lightbulb went on.

Gotcha!

I still can't believe how Chantel and her family just took off in the van for the 5 hour ride back to the hotel, all they would say to Pedro is, we will talk at the hotel

I heard that they make $25k each for Happily Ever After. No idea if this is true or if they get a lump sum or payments over time.  My understanding of their deal was that he is making payments  for the ring, but she had to take out the loan. Let's not even start about treating this as my money vs your money and financing something completely optional when you're a young "broke"  couple starting out.

I get the feeling that he's spending a lot of his cut of what they're making from the show on his family and she's pissed because she considers that their marital money. After buying herself a new car and insisting on a ring that could have gotten herself a not unreasonable used car... Ironically, the TLC windfall could be what splits them up.

These two are a flipping mess.

It's obvious Chantel is very spoiled. But they are living in a studio apartment which if they are making that much an episode, where is all the money?

And as far as she saying she is embracing his culture and what not is a bunch of BS, it's her way or no way. Regardless of what Pedro brought his mom and sister, Chantel  was disrespectful just leaving the campo with her family.

I watch the show just for Pedro and Chantel. There are many similarities in what my husband and I went through when we first got married.

Dominican men are mama's boys. My husband was raised by his grandmother and a big argument for us was that he wasn't truthful about how much support he gave his parents. He sends money home monthly. I don't care how much he sends home as long as he contributes what he is supposed to to our household

Typically about 60 bucks a month plus cell phones credits it what he sends back. Is nothing to us but a lot to his family.

The first time he went back to the Dominican my husband did exactly what Pedro did...bought all this stuff for everyone back home. Perfume, shoes, and clothes. Another argument because at the time he was spending all this money on everyone but had neglected to get me a birthday or Christmas gift. I'm like uh...hello...wife here. When do I get the same consideration you give everyone else. I like gifts. Eventually my husband started buying me things and surprised me with a real wedding set. Nothing as glamorous as what Chantel was begging for but it was from the heart and I love it. He is getting better at the gift thing.

As far as her family...i feel they are doing a bit much. Her brother is like a record on repeat and the mom seems too scripted for me. Dad might could like Pedro but his wife is making it hard. I was kinda pissed at their behavior when they got to the DR. It's like the they are so stuck up that they don't realize everyone doesn't live the way Americans do...its like they have no concern or willingness to learn about Dominican culture. Lord knows my first exposure to life outside of the resort was a big shock. Lol...i refused to eat for 3 days because his mom didn't have running water in order to prevent myself from having to go. Worked out fine until I passed out in the mall from not eating. I learned to get the bucket and flush the toilet like everyone else after that.

Pedro's family is crazy to me too. Mom was wrong for serving them chicken feet but according to my husband a lot of Dominican eat them...he doesn't but his mother and his children eat them. Says it cheap and all they can afford sometimes. I also noticed Pedro's slip and quick correction when hugging his "sister" at the airport. Definite red flag for me. Something ain't right there.

My husband hates the show. I asked him if he was afraid his sankish ways were being exposed but he feels it put them in a negative light since Dominican already have to bad rep for just wanting green cards. I love it because it helps me to see what is indeed sometimes cultural and what is him just being an was. Most time it's cultural.

I disagree with some of you all.  I don't think Pedro's family was being disrespectful at all in serving the chicken feet.  It wasn't the only thing they served!  They had a full meal including chicken feet.  No one was forcing it on anyone.  My mother-in-law makes all sorts of meat dishes and I smile and say "thank you" and eat the rice and salad.  It is quite common to offer something "typical" from the region when people visit.  I always encourage people to try shrimp & grits when they visit us here in the Southern USA, but I don't eat shrimp!  I figure other people do and they should try something regional.

I think Chantel's family is the typical rude, uncultured Americans that give us a bad name.  Have these people been nowhere outside the 'burbs of Atlanta?!?  The fact they wouldn't even get out of the van to meet his family is unbelievably disrespectful.  It also boggles my mind how they keep bringing up Voodoo, it shows their complete ignorance.  If they knew anything about the country they would know at least 90% of the population is Catholic! That family is almost certainly Catholic.  My husband is from the ghettos of Costa Rica.  When my family visited there was NO PROBLEM.  They went into the tiny little house, ate a simple meal, and everyone was happy and grateful to have each other there.  Is that so freaking hard?

I'm pretty much with you-- yes the MIL was making other food but the look in her eyes when Chantel was "explaining" that Americans don't eat chicken feet and find it disrespectful was sort of.... happy/fake surprised. (I re-watched the first part last night because night-of I was in and out of the kitchen, running late on my Sunday food prep, so I apparently missed quite a lot of detail!)

I still think her parents (mostly her mother) were insanely rude at that dinner and unforgivable with the whole not-getting-out-of-the-van thing. Her mom seems to be trying to act like she's on some bizarre edition of Real Housewives, with going right into someone's house and dragging up a slight from the past (quickly, too), to the host's face, and in a language the woman doesn't even speak. Like, a grudge to have a grudge and make sure it pays out for the cameras. It was... weird.

Speaking of weird, I saw the sister-butt-grab. It almost looked like she'd sort of half-jumped on him and he was trying to pick her up? But not really? Weird, I'll grant you.

I still don't think that he's pulling the old "sister" is really wife waiting in the wings thing. I don't think he'd be dumb enough to agree to do the show if that were the case. Plus, I feel like his mother is a bit of the jealous mother-in-law type. Stealing her baby boy type stuff. Not sure they'd be living together. Plus, here she is in some kind of beauty pageant, with the same paternal *and* maternal surnames as Pedro (they're buried somewhere in this thread). The only way that happens is that you're siblings you make a really unusual decision when you get married. I, personally, have never met or heard of people who use the Latin surname system do it so that the woman throws out both surnames and takes both of the husband's. Usually, she drops her maternal surname and takes the husband's paternal surname. Or (quite commonly), no one changes, and only the paternal surnames are passed down to the children (who will have two).

Thanks for all the updates!

From what I was able to see on 90 day fiance, Chantel's parents are definitely the noncultured Americans who don't want to know or care about anyone other then people similar to them.  Such a shame really.  I don't understand that viewpoint at all.
