Do I need EAN or SSN for AOS interview?

My wife and I have our AOS interview in 3 weeks after waiting almost a year for the appointment date.

Now I've heard on this forum that she needs an EAN and SSN for that appointment. Is this correct?

Why does she need an EAN if she isn't going to work soon? She is pregnant and isn't planning to work for at least a year.

Also, I thought she would receive the SSN after we finish the adjustment of status. Our appointment is in 3 weeks and we don't have an EAN or SSN.

We have "proof of the relationship" via marriage certificate and bank documents/bills, pictures, plus she is pregnant.

Also she filled out the I 485 with my last name but we haven't done a name change legally. Is this a problem? She has her passport and birth certificate with her original name which were submitted with the application.

You don't receive a SS number. You have to apply for one. K1s should apply for SS number soon after entering USA. There are other reasons to obtain a SS number beyond employment purposes. It is government identification used for income tax filing, health insurance, driver's licensing, etc etc.

A woman doesn't do anything extra to legally change her name after marriage except begin using your last name after marriage. Your marriage certificate is the legal document that supports this.

You don't receive a SS number. You have to apply for one. K1s should apply for SS number soon after entering USA. There are other reasons to obtain a SS number beyond employment purposes. It is government identification used for income tax filing, health insurance, driver's licensing, etc etc.

But, if you have a SS card using your maiden name and then change it after marriage, you would need to go to the SS office and get a card using the new name

Please read the guides about SSN and AOS stay ahead of the game by looking over the ROC (removing of conditions) so there won't be

any surprises even though you are just doing AOS.

K1's can apply for their SSN a few days after entering.

What do you mean by EAN ? Assuming you mean EAD ? Not needed if she doesn't plan on working.

Consulate Received : July 30,2014 Transfer to right embassy complete.

Interview Date : Oct 22, 2014

Interview Result : AP , requesting another PC (not expired) and certified divorce decree (was submitted)Stokes interview via phone for petitioner 4 hrs after interview.

Oct 23 email notification visa approved.

UPDATE: July 5, 2015 updated on all 3 cases, RFE received June 30, 2015.

Service request : Aug 12, 2015, letter received that it will be processed within 90 days from receipt of RFE.

UPDATE: Aug 24, 2015, EAD card being produced/ordered. ( 102 days from AOS receipt day and 55 days from RFE response received.) Thank you Jesus !

Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

Sorry, I did mean EAD not EAN. She doesn't plan on working so I'll just not worry about that.

She didn't enter on a K1, she was already here on an expired vacation visa.

I understand there are plenty of reasons for getting a SSN but my question is is it "required" for the AOS interview?

SSN is not required to file AOS.

No, otherwise folks like your wife could not adjust as there's no way she could have received a ssn.
