Your wife never got a letter that the files were destroyed because that's not what they do.

They sort of do -- anything in the file other than the petition (supporting documents such as birth certificates, etc.) is, in fact, supposed to be destroyed (shredded). If the file is at the Embassy or NVC, the petition only is returned to USCIS. Not sure what USCIS does with the petition -- I believe it is sent to their archive files. More importantly, however, even if there is no longer a paper file, the electronic file will still exist and be traceable.

Anyway it's late and out of my hand, because petition already applied in July 2016, at Potomac SC. , Please all pray for me that our case gets approve without any issues.

They send all approved I-130s to the national records center. There is a period of time that must go by before they can legally destory a physical file. I dont remember what it is.

Even if the USCIS doesn't check, she should correct this issue at the interview. Submit a NEW I-130 with the question answered appropriately.
