Hi

I'm going to call the Knightsbridge doctors first thing on Monday to book my medical, but today/tomorrow am trying to put an email together for a potential employer to give an idea of timelines if they decide to offer me a job - could anyone on here give an idea of how flexible the Knightsbridge clinic is in booking an appointment? I.e. if I call on Monday will they say sorry next available appointment is in a month, or have people found they're more open and can provide a more immediate date?

Also I understand I can simply get the MMR/Tdap vaccinations at my medical (happy to pay as I need to get it sorted quickly), does anyone have experience doing this and any problems?

Thanks as always

Ben

It varies with them but certainly never a month to get in. They might not have something next week but probably the next. You can pay for your shots, but as a K1 you don't even have to get shots for the visa. You can sort them with a civil surgeon before you apply for AOS, but you will pay for the civil surgeon to fill out the form and may have trouble finding one who won't insist you have a complete medical again.

Do you know you can't work on a K1 visa? You will have to marry and apply for work authorization along with your AOS and wait for approval.

Thanks Nich-Nick, always great clear advice! I'll just get the shots in my medical in that case.

Yep I'm aware I need to apply for the AOS/EAD when I arrive, hoping I can get it expedited with a job offer...the company is willing to wait for EAD to come through as long as it doesn't drag out!

It'll be 90 days. Give or take a few but certainly don't expect it within a week. If you're wanting to work right away a CR-1 spouse visa might have been more appropriate. You would have been able to start work the day your plane lands with that visa.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Yea definitely agree with you but at the time of applying for a visa our situation was different so K-1 was most appropriate, and only just been contacted by this company so everything has flipped around - definitely sod's law but hopefully it will work out!

Thanks for your reply

I got an appointment a week after calling Knightsbridge Doctors. There was an earlier one but it wasn't a convenient time for me.

I also needed a tetanus shot and 2nd MMR which I was given. I had expected this. Was duly charged as per their listed costs. All good.

Nice! As long as we don't trip each other up before the medical :)

When are you hoping to travel to the states?

I'm in a very similar situation.

I had a couple of potential employers who were ready to make an offer, but the EAD wait put them off a bit. One if still interested, but has to keep interviewing for the role in case my visa is delayed or rejected, so I am anxiously counting the days (interview on 3rd October) until I'm back in the US and at least on the way to getting my EAD!

After speaking to a couple who were in a similar situation and some research online, I've learned that if you get the offer in writing and submit it as evidence you can have the EAD expedited (which is seems you're already aware of).

As far as I know there are a couple of ways to do this, the first being to get the EAD expedited as laid out in this thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/453753-how-to-request-to-expedite-your-ead-based-on-a-job-offer/ It's a bit old but it essentially says that you call a number and provide your situation and they make a judgement, I am not sure if the number is correct but worth looking in to.

The other method is what the couple I know did, they contacted state officials e.g. Congressmen, and shared their situation. They were then given their EAD soon after. My understanding is that as long as you have the offer in writing, they will expedite on the basis that the sooner you're working, the sooner you are paying taxes.

Does anyone else have any experience or advice regarding expediting the EAD?

I am planning to go on 18th, via Cruise...Southampton to New york, however i'm not sure if that counts as my POE, or if i would need to go to JFK to get my visa approved etc in order to be issued an i94. I have looked at forums but cant seem to get any concrete answers.
