Rainman,

When the child is born you will want to file a report on the child's birth at a US consulate in Peru, to establish the child as a USC. And you'll need to apply to get the child a US passport.

I don't know any more than those 2 general statements. Perhaps you can find more by looking at the consular pages of the embassy in Peru's web site.

Some insurance policies will not cover the birth if you are away from home.

i spoke to the US embassy here in germany yesterday and the guy was really helpful..

he said if i have all the documents what they need it will take about 2-4 WEEKS

till everything goes trough and receive his US passport.. YAY!!

(report of birth abroad & US passport & US Social Security number..)

if ur wife has the baby in peru then she needs to call the US emabassy and they will

email her all the documents that you have to fill out too.. (if ur not going to be there)..

its pretty easy.. i thought it will take months.. but nope..

good luck..

Actually, the father will have to be the one who files the paperwork as he is the USC... and both parents are required to be present to apply for the passport...
